Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

This training thing is frustrating in terms of pointing out my weaknesses.
Just finished up my 4th session.

Flexibility for sure is the suck and I have a lot of work to do there.
Core strength is not great, but not as bad as the flexibility. Those exercises really sort of show me that Prince is nowhere near as strong as the other leg. :(

I have improved greatly in the simple aspect of getting on the floor and getting up. Sounds like a WTF sort of deal but given the leg injury, the titanium knee and the very arthritic wrist it is a challenge.

In reality I had not attempted to do that until 11 months into this fricking journey.

I am still a bit clumsy (OLD) looking with that but I am improving quickly.

In ways it has sort of bummed me out... but also it is motivating.

I know I will never get anywhere near the old days, but getting to where I can is important to future oldness and being happy.

Getting up and down off the floor is still a struggle for me, and it's honestly embarrassing. I'm 47, FFS! Injuries suck and you had a f*cking huge one.

Yup. The floor is the greatest piece of exercise equipment for older people. It may not feel as rad as pressing 250+ lbs but it's 1000X more useful and beneficial to your long term health to go to battle with the floor. I am learning to enjoy my struggles with it.

The good news is that flexibility will show results faster than the other elements, you just need to be consistent in working on it.

Core strength will come, again it takes consistency.

Are you riding a bicycle? I can't stress enough the benefits of riding a bicycle, it's strengthening and conditioning the muscles, but even more of a benefit is that it's cycling the joints which gets blood flow and oxygen to the places that won't get it sufficiently without the cycling.

My legs and especially my knees stay in good shape when I consistently ride my bike 4 times a week. It's also great cardio, much better than doing 10-15 minutes on the treadmill.

trails at any pace are a billion times more fun than a stationary bike. LMK when you are ready to bomb fire roads in santa cruz!
or bike paths along the shore. outside is infinitely better than inside.

I feel you about the getting up off the floor. I always baby my right knee that I had ACL surgery on but now since I have been doing more leg exercises and squats I find it is getting easier to get up and to also just squat/kneel on the ground. I actually have to force myself to use my right leg to get up off the floor as its now habit to always use my left leg.

You definitely have to be conscious about how you use your legs. After my 3rd knee surgery (same leg) I realized that the muscles on that leg had atrophied because I was subconsciously favoring it. It's what your body does and often it does not register in your head what your body is doing. Since my 4th knee surgery 28 years ago, I've made it a point to try to balance my legs, but I wasn't successful until I started riding a bike 10 miles 4 times a week.

Monkey Feet FTHW...IMO. The targeting with them is legit. If no dumbbells at home, the Pro's are solid.

I think @stangmx13 ’s saddle was exactly what I needed. I can ride continuously at my normal moderate pace. I had to stop and catch my breath on a steep grade today but that wasn’t saddle related at all.

Leg day. They are tough.
For some reason I find a little glory with the upper body stuff and legs are just tough.

Rode the bike for 20 plus and bust the 4 mile mark with 22 second left.

All the good stuff done and I just realized I skipped the dead lifts. :facepalm

Very solid PT exercises and weights were done well with a passion to get better. I do imagine the balance and cross steps stuff is not in everyone’s program but good stuff for me!

A small improvement here.
4 miles hit with 1:50 left. Basically a 90 second improvement.

No I am not. That is from the 24HR app, which I basically got forced into to get access to the gym.

Boxing cardio is getting better. Getting some of my footwork back but the speed is NOT there. My Strength is returning, my baseline is almost at a respectable level for someone who hasn't sweated like this in ten years. Still going conservative and not really pushing to failure yet but the weights are increasing every week, once I plateu I will have to start pushing to failure and hopefully by then my tendons/ligaments won't hate me for it :troy

As my fitness has improved my Diet has not and I still haven't lost much weight, surprisingly my Knee pain has gotten better.

Today's weekly hike was a tragedy. I dont know why but my lower back was KILLING me the entire time going up, I had to take several breaks just to stretch it out. Zero pain on the way back down, not sure wtf that is about, but its concerning considering I'm in better shape now than when I started hiking, Make it make sense

it's amazing how much better cycling is when your giblets aren't screaming bloody murder.

i probably should not be putting this many miles on a busted saddle but whatever. :x

I think you can use your fingerprint and phone number to check in at 24HR, if you want to leave your phone at home.
They just changed that. That is what I usually did. With the computer 12 step program for check in…..They are kind of forcing the issue.
