GoPro HD HERO3

I'm really on the fence about getting the hero3 or the sony action cam. Mostly because the only way to achieve 120fps at 720p is with the black edition, which costs $399 while even the $199 sony can capture 120fps at 720p. If the silver edition had that capability, then I would have been sold on the hero3.

I was just about to buy a second 2.... guess I'll wait for the 3.... :laughing

So glad I haven't bought the Wifi Bacpac yet.

Does it take the same batteries as the older gen models?

So can anyone explain what the wifi is actually going to do? LIke, can I watch it on my laptop as I film it? Upload straight to the internet? What's the point of wifi?

You can use the android/apple app to control the camera. Pretty sure you can't copy stuff off wifi.

Yakoo - Any heat issues with the latest models?

I've been on 47+ days worth of shooting for the video and never experienced anything with heat issues. TBs and TBs worth of content... no issues

From New Zealand winters (ski section) to Tonga summers (underwater) (35* - 91*)

Bay area we did Hawk Hill (65*) to top of Mt Tam (90*)

:party

I was about to purchase another HD2 last week but decided otherwise. I can't wait for this to come in!

Yakoo, can we purchase directly from you?

Question about the shoots...
Do you guys have a team going around filming everything, or do you find highly attractive/talented people and send them cameras with "we need a shot that does this..." local talent or do you bring people with you to do X stunts?

I could argue and say you don't need it
and I could say no one offers image stabilization above 720p

Sony does Image Stabilization @ 1080 120 FOV REALLY good, I can shoot you a side by side comparison if you want.

the image stabalization on the Sony had a noticeable effect on the 1080p recording I did... the shitty housing ruined it for me though...

I saw your review, its too bad you weren't willing to deal (figure out a way around their mistake) with the fogging as I'm sure you saw how good that camera was in every other aspect.

Now let's not get ahead of the train, until that android app is released (Oh and with the sony built in WiFi you CAN copy photos & videos over wifi) After the frustration of upgrading the wifi backpack (look up "gopro wifi update already registered" problem with windows 7) I was happy to see how easy it is to change ALL the settings on 1 page of the ipad - :wow:applause:thumbup although the video lag is at about 3 seconds (sony is about .5 of a second)

I know it sounds like I'm being harsh on GoPro & drumming up Sony, those cameras/companies both have strength & weaknesses, and I was just pointing out some specifics here. If you think I am a fan of sony here is a list of shit pissing me off:
-Wifi App Broken - has terrible reviews in google play, it works on my Nexus 1 running 2.3 but will not work on the galaxy nexus running 4.1
-Fogging
-Lack of decent mounts
-No dive hosing door (promised for November)
-Can't turn off the beeping
-60fps & 120fps suck without sound

And here is a list for GoPro:
-Over marketing & underdelivering, wifi backpack update took 3 months/still no live streaming

However I'll still buy the 3 I'm sure (got the 2 OG for sale here to fund the 3)

I need to be able to use the camera underwater... I just don't trust the housing lock at all... it's probably a $0.50 part that completely ruined my trust of it being waterproof... my tinkering days are over, i just want to buy stuff that'll work out of the box as intended...

I'll wait to buy a GoPro until they improve the sound quality. (It's in the works.)

I actually took it diving and had no problems down to 100feet.

everything is shot in house by GoPro. We travel the world shooting/sharing badass stuff.

image stabilization... ugh, so much to type regarding... do you know how image stabilization works first off?

You can move an element, move the sensor, or do it in post. I was thinking that it would be jerky, but Sony pulls it off pretty well.
