Great Phishing Stories Thread

When I get junk email, texts, or voice mails I simply delete them. I never answer them as that means they have a good email address or phone number that they can then sell.
Same. Except I copy and paste it here…

This morning, I can say it is a great relief to me because of your kindness. I admire your authenticity and the courage you have shown; please take all that is due.

I want you to know that if I were healthy and strong, I would not have asked for help. Dear, I am contacting you to inform you of my desire to donate to you the sum of £5,400,000.00, which I inherited from my late husband. I would like you to claim it.

Allow me to explain briefly. My late husband deposited this fund in a fixed suspense account here in the United Kingdom, and the documents pertaining to the fund are in my possession. Before death took him unexpectedly, we had no children.

Rather than allowing the government or auditors to take this fund if I am no longer here, I wish for the fund to benefit the poor in society. Please have the courage to stand as my late husband's business partner to claim this money.

I will provide you with every important document related to this fund, including the statement of the fund, considering my health condition. If you have truly accepted this act of humanity, please let me know.

Mrs. Joan Collins.

I start doing Instagram because the Pakistan folks do it, etc., and immediately got this…

"DMV - You have not addressed a ticket and your license will be suspended and :blah"

I was quite WTF for a second and thought this is bogus. I told ThumperX I got it and she said "Is it from a 63 # area code.. those are bullshit"

I looked and was amazed it was.

Marsha Wakeman, has petitioned my car insurance peddler, to add herself to my premium.
This happened 2 years ago with a young couple, too.
Don't know them or where they live, yet a reoccurring problem.

I did get another bridge fare threat again, too.

Same thing I got at the Hoho (documented above).

I edited out your DMV Pay link. Hate for someone to do a dummy and click it only to find a virus.

This one looked so real I actually responded…

Hi Butch, this Liza from next door. I wanted to see if you were home. It looks like a DoorDash person was walking in our backyard and we were a little worried since I am not there. They walk in and then walk out but just wanted to make someone aware since we are not positive he works for DoorDash. Thanks

got the fedex one this morning also but it was addressed to 20 different numbers :wtf

I tried to make a Zelle payment through my Business Chase account and it was flagged for review. I canceled it and re-renewed the request, which was also postponed and held for review. A few minutes later, I got a phone call from someone from Chase who said he needed to verify my identity. He asked me some interesting questions like what do the first two numbers of your Security number add up to and have you owned any of these cars, and what did the last two numbers of your drivers license number add up to. Well, knowing these answers got me nowhere. Apparently I failed his verification, at which point he became hostile. Said I needed to call some number to be further verified and when I asked more questions, he yelled at me to just call the number and then hung up! I called that number went through a bunch of AI verification before I got to some one who asked me for another string of verifications, including what’s my phone number, to which I replied, you tell me! Anyway long story short I got myself completely and utterly locked out of my Chase business banking account because their fraud department treated me like The Scammer. Hours of my life later, things are back to normal

Well now ya got me started on zelle. Flagged me the one time I used it legitimately and that was four hours of my life I’ll never get back.

This week was worse. Usually don’t answer my phone but it was labelled as my bank calling during dinner out. Man with heavy accent (?India?) says he is with fraud protection and someone in another state had used my card for a hotel for $984 and some Zelle transaction and was that me? I went through this once before when I had called fraud protection (that time a Filipina) but this felt off. He proceeded to ask for my deets and I smelled a rotten fish and therefore gave him erroneous numbers and passwords. He even had my bank sending me verification codes 8 times and had me to tell him the #s so that he could ‘delete’ those withdrawals, as he was actually trying to make them. The wrong info resulted in him getting repeated denials then locked up zelle and my account. Next day I got a new account and zelle’s zealous anti-fraud had actually worked in my favor this time.
I did manage to waste 90 minutes of his time. He even called me back when disconnected, with a fake number from my area code. He was promising me over and over that he was legit cuz I kept telling him I was skeptical. Then he said did I think he just wanted to waste his time on this? He got a bit crotchety as he went on getting denials and didn’t know I was the one pulling legs. He even tried flattery telling me that I didn’t sound my age and he thought he was speaking to a twenty year old. He was speaking his language in the background so I asked him where he was. He said CA but didn’t know anything about CA when asked where etc. Also told me he saw another card in my name and did I have another account he could check on? Asked about my partner’s accounts and my grown daughter’s too. Once he got us both locked out of my account he said goodbye not knowing I had been the one wasting his time. My bank said to have my phone virus scanned. Oh and he changed my google password and I got mad and made him tell me the one he used cuz I checked it as we spoke and he did! Buntie.1056 -so some techy here should please mess with him. Sheesh.
Upside is that my new account is now free cuz I’ve aged into the free zone. So the scammer has saved me about $100 a year FTW.

Yo Butch,
Do you have an INTUIT / Quickbooks account and use "gzavnili" to ship items?
I would suggest that you disable the "Respond to your feedback" link in the the post above so others don't click on "it" as it will take you to a web site that does not support HTTPS. [HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure version of HTTP, which is the primary protocol used to send data between a web browser and a website.] Being redirected to, or connection to an HTTP websites could make your browser vulnerable to network-based downgrade attacks.

You can do a search on "network-based downgrade attacks" for more info on that stuff.

Here's a little info on how HTTPS works:
  • Encryption: HTTPS encrypts the data sent between your browser and the website server, turning it into unreadable code that can only be deciphered with the correct keys.
  • Authentication: A website must have an SSL/TLS certificate to use HTTPS. This certificate, provided by a trusted authority, verifies the website's identity, ensuring you are connected to the real site and not an imposter.
  • Data integrity: By verifying the certificate, HTTPS ensures that the data exchanged between you and the website has not been tampered with or modified in transit.

Death linky removed.
Intuit does tax and trust stuff the late wife could have used. I think I am just a random computer generated possible sucker. I think.

I have no business relationship with Intuit
