GS500 build thread... cf tanks, internal supercharger, etc

I have to admit, with some of the "custom fab" stuff I've done. Most of the "cost" was all labor and time running back and forth getting things. You don't HAVE to use carbon fiber, when fiber glass will do. You don't have to use titanium, when aluminum will work. And on, and on.... Yes, certain things could look nice. But in a proof of concept you don't need to go all out unless you have the means to do so.

exactly... most of the investment is time. You can do an awful lot on a little budget if you want.

Agreed. Budget should not get in the way. I think I spent about $400 on my last bike. There is a lot you can do for next to nothing - and I'd argue those are the things that really set your bike apart. If you are smart, you can always trade for some of the skills or equipment you don't have. Hell, a bottle of scotch will get a lot of welding done.

And what exactly have you built ? :nerd

Check my post history.

Also, I'm a part time mechanic, so I'm usually working on other peoples rides. Also, as a college student, the dampers have been laid pretty solidly upon my creative fab/construction endeavors (time, money, etc.) It's summer and I got a new welder so it's on now though. :party

hey now... the whole "I'm a college student" thing doesn't fly in this thread

3k into it?

I have less then 2 into mine... including tires oil batteries insurance and reg over the last couple years :p

I might have 4k if you count fuel :p

did some math... i have closer to 4000$ in fuel through it O_O

yeah... I like to ride... everywhere.

Well, just bought a big roll of titanium foil to do some test pieces for some TiGr composite parts for my next bike build.

Plain carbon fiber is so passe... gotta use this aerospace job for something and bring the latest composites stuff to the bike world.

im thinking you need to figure out how to integrate some foamed AL

thats some amazing stuff!

I've seen it, and it is impressive. I have no means to make it though.

Came across a discussion on titanium carbide coated carbon fiber being used as a rebar like reinforcement in cast aluminum today... very interesting.

And again, something I don't have the means to make.
