Me too, like a lab rat! :teeth

We were very close to the cave paintings. I think it was actually closer to the main road and we just missed the hiking trail up. We went too far (the wash). Here is a pic of it on the hillside from the road below. I should have brought this pic with to find it easier. Next trip....

Yeah at the time I wasn't too crazy about the cave paintings but I started looking it up online and saw that they're light huge awesome cave paintings. Would have been some nice pictures.

uh oh the videos have caught up to the ride report time to get back on the ride report. It really helps to do the videos and ride report side by side. =)

The cave paintings video :OMG
Dmitry is really and truly a stud. Looks like Tom has competition in the endurance rider category :teeth

Another great set of videos... Long, but great.. I had to wait until I got home today to devote the time... The Cave paintings video is just epic! Spoiler alert - There are no pictures of any cave paintings in the video :twofinger.

I love how you're totally stuck, but all the riders just slog past you, and nobody asks if you need help.. I guess they thought you were just taking a break or something. :laughing

Thanks for putting all these great (to me) videos together.

Yeah this vid is kinda long and mostly uncut, I thought the road was fun because it was different than what we had been doing all day. This was very similar to Bahia de Conception though, can't wait to get that part of the vids.

haha where I was stuck looked like a good break spot. I should have just lied down and made snow angels haha.

I am pretty sure I am record saying to stay there and I will come back to help. :twofinger

After studying pics of the cave paintings, I am pretty sure we went past them closer to the road. Would have made an epic group ride photo had we found them!

Awesome merlin! Those ruts at 23:43 in the video is where I target fixated and stacked on the way out. Kind of rang my bell a little bit and trashed my saddlebags.

Oh yeah haha I remember on the way in I was saying to myself whew good thing I didn't go in that rut because I almost did until I saw how deep it was.

Day 2 Continued - Tough sand route

main.php

Everyone regrouped at El Arco. I had some yummy trailmix, then the group split up into two groups. The sfcootz, dmitri, saltwater, and cabrito took a graded road that went to the slab, then slabbed it over to San Ignacio. I on the other hand went with the other group that would take this shorter but more treacherous err.. fun way. So those that didn't go this way this is the fun you missed.

So we are at the junction for El Arco. We make a left and head into this little town then hang a right out of it. The terrain was actually very fun for a bit. It was similar to the road going to the cave paintings but curvy and smooth. It was nice because you can get the back to slide around.

Then the road started getting sandier. Not too bad.
main.php
main.php

Then it even sandier and people started slowing down. I had a couple close calls and it seemed like everyone else did too, because we were going much slower now. It was also getting narrower.

When you see a drop like this you know your in for trouble, because usually that is where sand collects.
main.php

The road gets narrower
main.php

Some people live out here.
main.php
main.php

I'm getting thrown around quite a bit then I dump my bike once and anytwowildo helped me get it back up. Everyone seemed to be having trouble in this section. We were walking but later we'll be crawlin!
main.php
main.php

main.php

The road is starting to get sandier and narrow also which isn't helping.

ThumperX is having some trouble too

main.php

It starts getting better, before it gets worse
main.php
main.php

We eventually get to a regroup area and take a break.
main.php

The next section is the SAND HELLWAY! Not long after the break and I dump it pretty good. The sand is deep and the road is narrow. There is not much margin for error. I think it wasn't so much as the deep sand that made this tough for me but also the narrow road. Also a lot of the tracks weren't there anymore to follow. I have a pretty spectacular spill according to lunchbox. Unfortunately I didn't catch it my camera wasn't on. But from what I remember I got tossed around road left to right, right to left, when I thought I'd recover it would just come at me again, until finally I crashed on the side. Lunchbox helps me pick up my bike and told me how spectacular it was.

So I crash and crash repeatedly sometimes hitting cacti. Everytime I crashed it just wore me out more and more. Just have to suck it up and drive on. It was so tough getting speed because it would always want to buck me.
main.php

Hit this Cactus pretty good enough to uproot it, Lunchbox helped me get out of it.
main.php
main.php

My leg got pinned down this time
main.php

Another cactus wants to impede my progress
main.php

Down again
main.php

Then I went down pretty hard. I went into a kind of dirt wall and cactus. This tore my saddle bag, broke the strap that holds it, tore a pannier bag strap off, and I didn't know it until I watched the video when doing this ride report but this is when I bent my oil cooler guard back. That's when I was beaten pretty bad. After lunchbox helped my get the bike up and lending me a rok strap to hold my saddle bag I just took it easy for a bit. I told myself that I can't afford to eat it one more time because my stuff is fallin apart. I just paddled like a duck praying this would end soon.
main.php
main.php

main.php
main.php

Finally it kind of lets up. Once in a while this harder packed side road would pop up and I took it. While riding along side the other road you can see how messed up with sand it is.
main.php

These narrow mudwalls don't help at all
main.php

At this point I've gotten a good speed going and I was zippin along around 25mph. I was sittin on my backpack to try and get more weight in the rear. Whenever I got to a dicey spot I would feather the throttle. Seemed like it went on forever.
main.php

Until I see these guys, whew I've made it through the worst.

Long live the Cactus Puncher!! Lol!

This ride report is great.. It's got stuff covered that's not in the big ride report..

And it's only half way done! I can't wait for the road of bones section..

I gotta watch these at work!

I love all the pictures of CJ snoozing while he's waiting for people. Seems to be his theme for this trip. Senor bubbles loves a siesta.

Merlin, that's the stretch where I hit the wall. It took a lot of calories to keep moving and I know I ran out. If it weren't for Lunchbox and my SO I'm pretty certain I'd still be there.

I don't think Daniel was on that stretch of road I think he went on to San Ignacio with Saltwater, Cabrito, Cootz, Dmitry, and Shadow. Another victim of not enough fuel in the body.

Yeah I went the easy route. Between no breakfast, little sleep, too much tequila and crashing in those ruts I knew I was needing to conserve energy.

Not sure if anyone has pics but at the end of the dirt stretch out of El Arco where it hits pavement there was an abandoned radio station or something and we went in to check it out. Seemed like it was a giant birds nest full of debris and bird poop. :wtf
