HD aging biker problem...

Harley Davidson is increasingly reliant on international sales, especially in Europe. In 2004 only 18% of the company’s sales were international. This figure had moved to 32% by 2009, helped by a heavily weakening dollar. Because Harley incurs its production costs in the United States, it benefits when the dollar weakens against the Euro and the Yen.

Karbon asked...Just curious...Does anyone here actually uses their Harley as a daily beater?

Say 18-20k miles a year.

Yeah I have...own an 08 Dyna...never had a problem. I really like the bike. Don't knock it unless you have tried it.

Only problem was riding in the Miami summer when temps get above 100 degrees. The heat rising from the engine was unbearable.

Old Farts

hey, I'm 52 and I loves me my sportbikes. I want a bike that does what I want it to NOW, not in a few seconds while it's frame is bending and the boards are grinding. I've never really felt quite safe on any cruiser, too slow to react, too low level of performance. Now, if all I was doing was cruising around to bars....:twofinger:teeth

Yup.

Alternate between the two dynas and the kawi. Commute is 50 mi each way and the return trip includes over 84 between 280 and 1. Took one of the dynas to Morro Bay w/ my daughter on the back down 1 the weekend before last ( hard to do on the kawi w/ stuff) and the other one to Reno this weekend.

Over 100k on the '01. Only issue was a coil at somewhere around 30k and a $1.00 seal around the shift linkage.

Used to ride my Road King 60 miles to work and then 60 miles home every day.

Plus the 2 mile round trip home for lunch. :teeth

HD isn't going anywhere. They might slump, glory days is gone, but the sheer monolithic brand recognition they carry will keep things rolling for decades... in some manner or another.

Dumping Buell was stupid. I'd say somebody needs to pick it back up again but I guess that ship has probly sailed, sank, poop.

My prediction... the US won't have a chance for a competitive modern signature brand of its own unless some crazy genius jumps on electric bikes in some kind of super awesome creative personality-rocking way that happens to hit the right nerve. And it will definitely not be a Harley. ...And still, the parts will almost certainly not be manufactured here, because the economy Just Does Not Work That Way Anymore.

Harley would have kept Buell around if Buell had actually made bikes consumers wanted to buy, like sport bikes with a full fairing like Japanese and Euro bikes. But Eric Buell refused "it's not about listening to the voice of the customer" - Eric Buell.

What is really missing from HD right now is a real starter bike. Something like a Rebel 250. Gotta build that brand loyalty early.

talk out your ass much?

look at Buells new bike, the 1190.

ITS LIKE ALL OTHER SPROTBILES. HD made the CR what it is.
