Helimot moving out of state

:thumbup

Surj can your wife make some that shows the BARF salute for the Jerry Brown?

^^^This x 1K bazillions....

Re: Helmut, Linda, & Helimot - I've got either three or four pairs of Helmut's gloves and will use them until I can no longer ride. Nothing compares, and I've tried enough brands to figure out that his gloves are the best in the world, and the customer service provided by Helmut & Linda are equally excellent.

They will be hugely missed, and I hope their new business will prosper in a more-free state. :hail :hail :hail

California codes and regulations sucks!

I don't blame them for leaving. I'd actually recommend it. If California just imposed ONE fee on businesses and they (CA) would divvy-out where it went, that would attract SO MANY businesses.

Also provide a simple rule book to employers as to how to handle employees and for small businesses how to "skirt around" some of the rules.

Personally I DO NOT WANT TO WORK ON A CONSTRUCTION SITE WITH A DUDE WEARING GIRLS CLOTHING. However, I personally believe the government should provide ALL care for someone born biologically neither male nor female. That is a shitty start to life. That kind of person I would embrace working with.

My dad retired (at 74 1/2) 18 months ago. I DID NOT WANT TO TAKE OVER HIS CONSTRUCTION/CONTRACTORS BUSINESS! I am 30 units from a PhD perhaps 2 PhD's and what you need to know is WAY too much as a contractor to start or take over a business. I love to build, so I was approached by two top contractors in Sonoma county when they heard my dad was retiring, and worked for both, chose one then wound up with the other...and totally am happy with the final outcome. ALSO, 80% of contractors in California file complete and total bankruptcy.

So Helimot can "work" in Reno and service California. Also, if they sell their house in the Bay Area they can buy a Mansion out of state in preparation for retirement.

Best wishes for them!

attract SO MANY businesses.

California has so many employed people that our main problem is real property cost. Good problem to have. Attracting business is not something California needs to work on.

I like Helimot gear but the guy is a bit of a whackjob and not the first person I'm going to consult on macroeconomic policy.

A friendly guy who is enthusiatic about his product is a whack job?

I'm glad I picked up a new pair of Buffalo 365s when I left town. Now I wish I'd grabbed more window stickers, too.

The man is a treasure. (Linda's great too.)

Why would you choose to place an insult in a thread such as this one? Is that the vibe that you got from all of the other posters?

The man isn't being eulogized. As far as I can tell the majority of this thread is the usual barf meatheads holding forth some pretty ridiculous theories about state and local economic policy. Which is as ridiculous as it sounds. I'm sick of barf being full of threads about how much better california would be if it weren't for the fact that all the gas tax receipts are used to buy crack for black lives matter. It's just dumb.

While I agree with some of what you say, that's no reason to diss someone who has done so much for the community. It's equally dumb to not be able to see that those are separate issues. Helmut and Linda are truly wonderful people that don't deserve to be insulted because you don't agree with the perspectives of some Barfers.

In usual BARF fashion this thread has gotten way off track....

I like his gloves. Best damn riding gloves out there. He's older than I so I'm thinking I better stock up a couple pair just in case he really goes out of business.

I am sorry to hear this:
While I agree with some of what you say, ..

The irony of jwb's posts is palpable. I will keep this brief because it is in "General".

California is the THIRTY-SIXTH (36) State in employment. And it has been proposed for many years that the number of unemployed is actually always higher than what is reported because of California's large "sanctuary population". Bureau of Labor Statistics

Meanwhile, California is EIGHTEENTH (18) in MOST DEBT! The States Project

Thus, California is not doing as well as YOU imagine. Your "scholarly" opinions will probably play well in the Kitchen Sink, where there are many people who talk about things without objectively researching information, first.

There are lots of affable people who are good at their craft and trade harboring all manner of wacky ideas about politics, economics, law, ...

He told me he will continue to make and sell the Buffalo Pro from Oregon.

Can somebody clear this up for me?

Is he making ALL gloves out of state for online sale? Or ONLY the Buffalo Pro?

If today is the last day, then I damned well need to get an order placed.

My understanding is that he'll still be making/selling them from OR.

I'll be stopping by in a couple hours and can verify.

Much appreciated. I'm heading to CA in person in approx 3 weeks. Would have been lovely to stop by, but I'm just a tiny bit too late.

If you can check whether he's still making and selling his full line, that would be fantastic.

Eh—keeping it brief, being General and all—I wouldn't put too much weight on that. All I really mean is that the nonstop "California SUX!" from a certain crowd is tiresome, and often not very well informed. Yeah, there's lot of onerous stuff here, but if it sucks so bad, shut up and move already. See how that works out.

Or at least put in the work to fix it. As with the lane splitting / general moto-advocacy stuff, there's lots of talk / crying and almost no critical thinking and actual effort.

Oops. Not as brief as planned.

They're dropping B11 and B-17 but still making Buffalo Pro and Hi 5. What's left of the race gloves is it.

This is one of the most stupid threads I've ever read on BARF.

Helimot is free to relocate anywhere in America to produce their goods. And so they will. Good luck to them. I know Helmut has run an honest business and is to be commended for it

Regardless, California is doing many of the right things. It leads in many segments of commerce and this hasn't happened by accident. No state is perfect, but from my various interstate tours over the years, .... you move, you're going to gain some, but you're going to lose quite a bit as well.... California is definitely not 3rd world status.

Example of actual socialist democracies, Netherlands, Deutchland, Canada, Denmark, Svensk, Norsk.
California, does not fit the definition, in any sense.

California has just one problem, as I see it. Too many residents. Perhaps if people who come here, then complain about everything just made good on their threats to leave, it would improve things immensely. Perhaps Kansas? Don't they have a low tax rate?

Maybe Helimot is leaving Fremont for reasons other than regulatory pressure. I mean have you ever been to Fremont?

I should log in more often, would have seen this thread earlier and made a last stop by his shop to pick up a few pairs for the future. Had an old pair of his roo skin H20 which I loved and got much use out of. Busted a stitch a few months ago and had found out he moved to Fremont. He sold me on a pair of his Hi5 gloves instead of repairing and it's a new love affair for me. Thankfully he set me up with a pair that are pretty much a perfect fit in the fingers which is good because bringing them in for alteration is out of the picture now :(

Best of luck to the couple, I didn't need to frequent their shop that much but every time I was there they were both super friendly and took their time to make sure I was happy. Always loved supporting a local, but I hope they continue to expand their business and find even more success in greener pastures.
