Do people use the internet to hide behind their computers? Are people that are usually mild mannered or sheepish act up online? I've gotten my butt kicked on many occasions here on barf, that never happens to me in real life. Do you think people will act braver and more disrespectful because they are on an online forum and can hide behind their computer. I'm wondering if people do this just because they can. I'm positive most of these folks would never dream of speaking that way to someone in person.:dunno

In my experience yes; however I've heard different mileage from different people

People become experts in everything, triple black-belt martial artists, you name it once they get behind a keyboard.

Yes, yes, si, si. As much as people love to hate Facebook, the good thing is that people have had to come out from behind their avatars so they are a bit more real, confining their rants to postings of meme posters, like above, about political crap-n-stuff.

On FB, people are fake nice, instead of fake mean.

I suppose "hiding" is one way to characterize it, although that suggests there is a dishonesty to it when in a certain way, it's actually far more honest since people tend to express their true feeling online, uninhibited by any sort of social filter. Of course the truth of that feeling is an artifact of the medium, once you see the same people you are addressing face to face, the feeling might feel less true. It's not really better or worse, it's just a different communication medium that results in different behavior.

Tim, they cower in your awesauce presence once they find out you ride a Harley. :laughing

But then again it may be the tattoos... :p

I used to be able to hide behind 'the computer' but with all those light small fangled mobile devices, it is impissible to do. :nerd

I hide behind the computer as I hide behind this mask of georgousness on a daily basis.

(ok j/k about the georgousness)

I flipped you off and was plenty cheeky when I saw you the other day. :)

Actually I think most people are pretty much themselves online. It doesn't seem that way only because the few "special" ones flock to this medium to air their inflated alter egos.

pretty sure I gave you the same crap online that I do IRL Tim.
Agreed, you do:p

You definately wear a mask of georgousness and I can say this since I'm here typing behind my keyboard.:p

Gorgeousness.

Nobody cares if you have a similarity to someone named George S.

and so it goes...........
One question I have is why? Why would anyone join a mc site on the internet and be disingenuous?

There are so many of us here who have met and ridden together, hung out and reached out akin to family. Why would an individual join this family but never be honest or reveal themselves in real life? Why would someone be here just to poke others?

I kinda get it but I do not truly understand why.

(I rant like this in person too)
