High revving, small displacement V8 engines

I think my Acura says no more at 123mph. Or maybe it was 127. Either way, the H-rated (130mph) tires dictated that situation because it certainly has the horsepower go go much more than that.

I want to say my Escape is limited at 111mph or 108. I would guess the weird MPH number equates to a round number in KPH (ala 186mph = 300kph)

It's not really impressive for a OHV motor of that size, it's damn sure not for what I'm assuming is an OHC motor. Deal with it :twofinger

As I recall they were going to have it spin to 9,500, but were concerned about reliability issues so they dialed it back...its a factory street car (the 350R that is). I actually thought about getting one, but it looks like getting one for even close to the sticker is not going to happen. Might as well get 2 Camaros and up my Whisky Tango game.

You could always buy a 350z :twofinger

titanium parts costs $$$$$

the motoring public wants immediate torque so high revving is out.

look at the E90 M3 with small V8 it is gutless below 3500

the inline 6 TT that replaced it is lighter, more torque and power plus you can get 20% with a toon.

The 6 T probably gets better gas mileage too. Most cars are going to have turbos from here on out just to meet power wants with mpg requirements.

Assuming you meant that a V8 will be longer than a V6?

The straight six in my Jeep is longer than the V8 in my Chrysler.
True, but an inline six is much narrower, leaving room in other directions. Either way, the 8 cylinder is going to be a bulkier engine.

There was a pretty thorough Reddit post I found that said V8s are basically a jack of all trades compromise. Summary was that a straight 6 is the most harmonically balanced and efficient engine that makes power hence why BMW uses them so much. Also why a V12 is a great engine compared to a V8.

You mean like this 544cc V8?

It went into the Western Washington University FSAE car ~early 2000s.

Funny thing is that single cylinder 450s started winning regularly after that.

its all about the benjamins

to engineer and design a new v8 for a car selling @ 30k is not worth it
