Honda announces CRF450L

The 500 EXC is a badass bike. I doubt the Honda suspension and brakes will be the quality of how KTM's come equipt.

500 EXC is probably too much of a workout in the tight stuff though unless you're a pro. A mellow Honda might be a better fit for the common man.

Ahh yes, let me guess, you only drink the orange kool aid? :laughing
I am willing to bet that Honda's suspension and brakes will be on par, they just won't have WP and BREMBRO spooged in hi-viz stickers all over them.
Have you ever ridden a 450x? Mellow is not the term I'd use to describe it.

The KTM incestual fapping on BARF sometimes makes me want to quit completely.

Oh wait, I almost forgot, KTM DA BEST!

OMG. YES.

Question is, do I still want a 701?

Second question is, do I get rid of the XR400?

... gas tank sure looks plastic ... :dunno

... maybe the ti tank came out
of the same parts bin as the close-ratio transmission ...? :laughing

See attached. The clothed bike seems to employ a gas tank cover in addition to the air scoops. More photos here.

I just hope that like many dual sports, the seat isn't uncomfortable for that trip to the trail head, and that the gas tank holds enough fuel to get home from the ride. The aftermarket is rife with fixes for those two foibles, and you'd think that the manufactures would take notice.

Mikey likes it...

:laughing :thumbup I suspect the same and sure it will be confirmed wide ratio as it has been reported in other articles.

The Koolaid folks are going to try and compare it to the KTM 500 EXC-F, which isnt the X or L's design target from what I have read. More like a very capable offroad bike with top shelf suspension and chassis, but a motor that will be easier on the owners wallet over the long haul.

Edit: Looks like Surj has already proved me wrong. :twofinger Good little intro article btw. :thumbup

... love the weight and the electric start (and suspension, I suppose)! :party

... suspect it will only be as good an adventure bike as
the KTM plated-dirt-bikes make (not very) ... :dunno

... disappointed with the stock fuel range and suspicious
of the aluminum rear subframe ... :nchantr

... wow, that's a cool gas tank! :ride
(too bad it isn't six gallons ...)
thanks for the link ... :thumbup
... that's you in the first pic, right? :party

:laughing Tooootally.

I agree on tank size, but I'm curious to see what kind of mileage it gets. The smaller Honda singles are getting ridiculous mileage these days, although I expect this will be more about ballsiness.

Thanks! And I think you're right that it's not going to be quite as hardcore, but solid, dependable, and quite competent.

Which is exactly what at least one person here (me) wants :thumbup

When does the SM version come out? That might make me consider an upgrade from my DRZ-SM.

I had the same thoughts too.
You can just convert it too but then you're running into the price point of a Husky 701..
