How bright can my low beam be?

JimE makes a good point that I've neglected to mention. On many bikes, the wiring going to the bulbs and back is barely adequate, resulting in voltage drops by the time the juice gets to the bulbs. Buy rewiring and bypassing the stock wiring entirely, significant gains can often be made. You can still use the stock switches and relays, but you tap the power directly off the battery and use additional relays if necessary.

I've never understood why bike manufacturers still can't adequately wire things like headlight circuits and also can't design charging systems that fail if you look at them sideways. It ain't rocket science.

55w HID systems are way overkill. A 35w HID will put out more than 3 times the light of a standard 55w halogen. That's one of the very attractive things about HID. I can install two driving lights at 35 watts each and put out more light than if I'd installed two 110w halogens.
