How come LEO's don't wear gear?

I always find it comical when people say things like "most kids these days". How would you know how "most" kids are these days? Have you met "most" kids? No, you have not.

It's usually people without children who make these comments. I'm a parent with two sons of my own and all the kids who live in my neighborhood are good, respectful kids. They ask me questions about my bike, my gear, everything.

We have to set the example. If not us, who will? The attitude that "kids won't listen anyway" is counter productive.

Motor cops set the example whether they like it or not. "Cops don't signal, either" - I've heard that one alot.
most kids = most kids i encounter at work, which are total shit, in my service area.

because im not usually contacting the good kids...

Why is it just kids? By wearing minimal gear while on-duty we set a poor example for all motorcyclists. Sad but true

You need to convince the Powers that Be that Hi Viz yellow ballistics on an aerostich plus a flipped-up flip-up full-face helmet is soo incredibly dorky that you coludn't intimidate a bug... :teeth

This :thumbup

I think alot of Leo's would like to wear more/better gear, but the city simply won't allow it. Their reasons are public relations based, not safety based.

Ironic since the CHP are part of the Department of Public Safety and should thus be setting the example for safety to all riders.

Give CHP some credit, they have authorized their officers to wear a new jacket with armor and made of cordura or whatever abrasion resistant fabric. It's a nice jacket and I've been seeing CHP officers wearing them. :thumbup

Sweet! Hopefully, other departments will follow their example.

That is excellent news.

Cops getting proper gear is good news- cool beans.

But I think the "role model/set example" thing is hardly as influential as you think- I don't see it as even a minor driving force to the market. If it was- you'd see all kinda m/c gear ads with cops in them.

Was he injured by the (your) impact? :teeth

Negative- He was doing traffic control at a bicycle race and two asshat cagers in front of decided to drive through the cone pattern of a closed lane (that was clearly marked w/ way advanced notice)- we were stuck in the turn lane while each driver was given an individual ass chewing.
