How do you manage having multiple bikes?

People ask me the same thing about bicycles. Why/how does someone need/afford a dirt jump bike, a street bike, a townie, a free ride bike, a cross country pedaler, and a downhill bike? Isn't is hard to keep track of parts, tool, maintenance, where to keep them, how to insure them, how to keep quality rubber on all of them, etc?

I usually turn it around with why does my girlfriend need so many shoes for only two feet? Why do people have so many pots and pans when it only take one to burn anything? Why do you need so many DVD movies when there is only one worth owning (Blade Runner, directors cut). How can you afford all the trouble that your little carbon replicas get into on their way to their 18th birthdays?

Life is hard but life with only one pair of wheels is harder so we must all make the sacrifice to -- at all costs -- ride instead of drive/walk.

I guess I joined the Multi-Bike club:

2014 Triumph Tiger, 2005 Suzuki SV1000s,2001 Yamaha FZ1,
2006 Honda 599, 1974 Kawasaki Z1

Insurance gets cheaper as the most bikes you pile on :D

Cost me an extra 30 bucks a year to insure a 2008 DRZ-SM with $250 comprehensive deductible. I had to double check the number and then went back to hooning around the streets of the bay area :rofl

Went from 4 to 2 last month, needed the space and not riding as much.

Ya, I think I've got seven out there now and actually I'm slowly losing interest so I should sell a couple too. I do all the work on them or I used to anyway. I just haven't felt like doing much with them the last couple of years so to the op I'd say make sure you can and want to do the maintenance and repairs.

Insurance isn't much of a big deal. I have insurance on five (three with full coverage) and it's around $600 total for the year.

Not sure how I do it, amongst the many many other projects I have... I have way too many vehicles at the moment and am looking to get a couple more motos to add to the collection. On that note, how many constitutes a collection? 3? 4? 6?

SQUIRREL!

Ok... Off to search BARF and CL... Gotta get two more dirty bikes... a spare and one for the missus...

I currently own a CBR1KRR, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus and a Streetglide having all these gives me options what to ride and when. I do most of my services on my own the streetglide goes to the dealer since its still under warranty but nothing has gone with it. I cage a full size truck so riding any of my bikes makes it better for gas consumption. I will admit tho having the grom is costing my the most money since I keep messing with it.

I've had up to 6 bikes at one time. I found that 3 bikes is the perfect balance for my usage. For some reason I really never get to the 4th when I had 4 to 6 bikes.

Having bikes that don't overlap is about as good as it gets, I have a Touring, Liter Sport Bike and a Hooligan Bike. These bikes have nothing in common with one another. I have a friend that has 3 bikes, all liter sport bikes, he doesn't have "real" choices in my opinion. I can take off to Alaska or hit the jeep trails if need be, do a track day or run a full day of errands. Meet friends out for lunch or head out to a bike night, as all bases are covered.

What do you use to track your maintenance on your bikes? I am in the club as well with a VFR, 748S, (2) KLR's and a V7 Sport (Dad's bike)

I have a few and besides registration the cost is not much difference. Allstate is awesome at taking my mileage for each of the 4 bikes insured. All are full coverage and it is not much more than one bike. I have been with them since 86 so I might have a special deal and no doubt now Moto tix since 74 helps ( as does my age :afm199)

Tires add up a but I love to ride and like Moto Rama I do love looking in my garage.
I made sure our burglar alarm system covered the garage the same as the house. ;)

easy one is for everything. the other has a blown motor so it goes no-place.
but had been set up for everything on the FZ1. dirt rides on the xl. :afm199

the hardest part is choosing which bike to ride, because you are then choosing NOT to ride the others.

that is easy ... the one with the most gas in it!!!

Mine are all broken track bikes. So, I use them to hang spare parts from.

Some day...

I already have 2 battery tenders for 4 bikes but I was looking at that but I am not sure if I'm going to like that one since all the bikes sit in their own space in the garage

The trick is to get this: http://www.batterytender.com/25-ft-Extension-Leads-4-Pack.html when you get the 4-bank charger.:thumbup

The 12 and 25 foot leads are a must. I have three leads to each of the bikes in the garage and have a 25 footer going outside under the garage door and into my truck that is driven maybe once a month. The fourth bike is the one that gets used year round. So everything always has a full battery.
