how far before you put feet on pegs?

The hell? Are we really judging people based on how quickly the pull up their feet?

I think I dangle my feet between stop signs in SF because I can't be bothered to lift them up only to put them back down again in 50 feet. What are you gonna do about it, punk?

yea, i learned racing around on dirt bikes and for whatever reason my feet were off the pegs hanging back on starts for balance and the once things "stabilized" I would put them on the pegs. I have noticed that I do this on street bikes even thought it's totally unnecessary. A function of habit I think.

It turned out to be opposite for me. In play riding, dirt trail riding, there was a lot of a foot down to catch a "this is needing some extra help" moments. But when a Pro Desert Racer, adopted me, and that meant, mentoring me..Fist thing he said was NEVER put a foot down....(had to do with coming up with a bloody stump).

I pretty much laugh at them, because they're usually on a scooter. I realize they're mostly noobs, but it's funny anyway.

I hope this doesn't deteriorate into the unholy "left foot down vs. right foot down at a light" debate! :laughing

I'm ashamed to admit that at many Stop signs in semi rural areas with little traffic I put no feet down despite coming to a complete (or darned close to it) stop.

The guys on drag bikes are the only ones who seem to benefit from dragging their feet on launch.

But that's not even hard and fast either. Andrew Hines (NHRA PSM) makes it a point to put his feet on the pegs as soon as the bike starts moving. Wind tunnel tested aerodynamics, he says.

They're noobs.
I don't know what you're expecting out of this. Are we supposed to all make fun of them for learning how to ride a complicated machine capable of speeds humans aren't made to go that offers no protection to the rider and being nervous about it?

And I'm talking about the 2 to 3 second period in which you are in first gear. After that, feet on pegs, hands on bars till the motor shuts off or you're thrown off.

if I'm bored I usually try to keep my feet on the pegs AFTER I come to a complete stop and start counting. my record is 10 seconds.

Bumper-to-bumper traffic in states that do not allow lane splitting, I will use my feet as outriggers. Since I don't have FasTrak, this is also true here at home at bridge toll booth approaches. Especially after a long ride and I am tired. That's a lot of up-down-up-down with the knees just to "look" like an "experienced rider" to some random Barfer who's probably way cooler than me anyway.

1/3 of the time I don't put my feet down at all, 1/3 of the time I put them on the pegs right away, 1/3 of the time a leg drags....100% of the time I don't care. :teeth

'Didn't know you were supposed to put your feet down when stopping.

This is very common in Europe especially with scooter riders. I've seen riders having there feet out all the way until they reach the other side of the street. Now I don't understand guys who put there feet up and the bike has barely moved yet.

Both my pegs are broken off so I just hold my feet up where they are supposed to be so the police won't hurt me.

I've noticed alot of this lately.

squidly/noob riders who stick their leg(s) out for about 50-100 feet (or way past the intersection) before stepping on the peg(s). it's like watching kids learn how to ride a bicycle.

can you ride the entire DMV road test with legs out?

i do this once in a blue moon.. but only because ive been riding for a while and im just stretching my legs

An old racer guy told me once that if your feet aren't on the pegs, you aren't in control. I try to balance at lights, and I pick my feet up normally before I move away.

An old racer guy told me once that if you're fete arnt on the pegs, your arne't in control. Yer retarted.

There is a group of HD riders around here (what a fuckin' surprise), that ride around in a group/gang (they wear colors), that drag their feet about 50 feet up to stop signs or lights, sit there revving their unmuffled bikes incessantly at the light or sign, then drag their feet all the way across the intersection and even further up the road. Maybe they are sponsored by Dickies Boots, since that is what they all wear. They also have fringe that reaches the ground, a pretty good sign they don't ever go on the freeway, they'd get whipped to death.

Not an anti-Harley post, it's an anti-gang/moron post.

Ricky Gadson doesn't put his feet on the pegs until 2nd gear. He must be such a noob
