how far before you put feet on pegs?

I try to keep my feet on the pegs at stop signs and short right turn red lights. Am I inviting trouble with a ticket? I mean it's more obvious that you stoped if you put your foot down. I probably completely stop for a second or so.

Ricky Gadson doesn't put his feet on the pegs until 2nd gear. He must be such a noob

Pretty sure You know, that what a top drag racer, (that has their way) does at the drag strip, has diddly to do with Rider that has no skill, but does OK enough on the street, as long as they don't have to deal with anything.

DRAG RACING, YO!

I generally put my feet on the pegs before letting the clutch out. I usually don't fall over.

wait usually...? how many times have you fallen over doing this :laughing

Next up: What's with the idiots who walk with their hands in their pockets?

:laughing

Both of my feet are on the pegs before the clutch is even all the way out. I would say before I've moved even 18".

Matters if im tryin to get that gum off the bottom of my shoe.

A couple months ago I saw a sportbike club riding on the 880, mostly 18-25 year olds based on what they were wearing (t-shirts with those stupid Icon back protector vests). Anyway they were going regular highway speed, and all of a sudden they dragging their feet. :wtf Like as if we're supposed to be impressed by the "skill" it takes to perform such a hardcore "stunt". :laughing

I'm impressed, and I wasn't even there. Recently in LA, on 101 near 405, I saw a bunch of Ruff Ridahz hauling ass through stopped traffic, a couple of them in the back were prospects (I know because their shirts said so!), and seemed like they were trying to stay within 1 foot of each other, front tire to back tire, at about 70 in the stopped traffic. I fully expected to come upon a bunch of bikes accordianed into each other somewhere down the road, but I didn't. A couple of those guys were dragging their feet, too.

Reminds me of the time I tried, on purpose, to kick an orange cone when I was on my minibike when I was a kid. It hurts just thinking about it, and it was 40 years ago.

OK, thats what You see, But..up here, the feet dragging, Duck walking action is Crusier riders And Gold wing riders and there is no indication that they have any intention of dropping that habit they have...It's just "normal" in their circle.

Well, it ain't hurting anyone and honestly I imagine it takes a lot more oomph to get a bike that size on a fulcrum they feel safe at.

On my husky, maybe a foot or two. On the xr. Through an intersection...Hard clutch pull and fast engagement + hair trigger throttle and tons of torque...I keep my training wheels out just in case she gets a bit sideways...Also this habit is useful in the dirt.

:laughing the answers to this question read quite a lot into weird little habits. i often start off with my feet off the pegs, especially in traffic when i'm feeling lazy or bored, and not in the mood to go darting through it. never really thought about it or why i do it - probably mostly laziness. it's odd that people even notice.

I always laugh at people who take off with their feet sticking out (vs. on the pegs). looks like a 6-yr old kid on a bike riding 'look at me! no feet!'

the cool riders only put 1 foot down at stops, so that there is already 1 foot on a peg. :twofinger or their legs are too short to touch both feet down at the same time

It's probably a really good idea to keep the rudders out if you're not 100% comfortable with your feet up. "Whatever keeps ya upright" is my motto. I'd rather watch someone take off and ride for 50 yards with their feet sticking out than have to pull over to have to help them pick up their bike in the middle of an intersection.

What's a "footpeg" :dunno

I see what you did there:laughing

It looks just as silly as the riders that drop their legs 100 feet before coming to a stop. It's like training wheels or something. Looks silly as hell but I guess whatever works for them. :dunno

most of the time I typically have my feet onto the pegs right when i open the throttle?? does it matter? every now and then i drag my feet just cuz i like draggin my boots for a few feet. Other times i just pop my two legs out in the air and do a little air kick for the whole idiocity of it - cuzzzzzzzzz it makes me smileeeeeee and chuckle and i'm living my life carefree. is there some sorta rule now that i gotta have my feet up on the pegs right away? if i strap a teddy bear onto my bike, am i gonna get chastised from the peanut gallery of being any less of a rider (a manly rider at that!)

knowing Barf, i'm pretty sure i'll get stones and scissors tossed at me.
