How far is your daily commute to work?

I'm wondering if a commute from San Jose to San Francisco every day in my Dodge 1500 is going to be too much.

I did that for two years and it was pretty grueling... I work in the bayview area so parking is free but I was spending about $400 a month in gas plus maintenance (29mpg average in my Acura). Average commute time was 3-3.5 hours round trip. If the train is viable I would recommend doing that, doing 120 miles a day sucks.

I live a lot closer now, it's just about 30 miles even from Pleasant Hill to SF. By car it's about an 60-75 mins each way, on the bike it's about 40 each way.

24.5 miles. 45 to 50 minutes in the morning and 45 to 70 minutes in the afternoon. Lately it's been closer to 70 due to the endless construction they are doing on 101 in Palo Alto area.

About 100 Steps.

27 to turn on coffee
33 back up stairs to shower shit shave
33 to get a cup of coffee
the rest down the hall to my office :ride

15 miles each way to bart, $2.40 in gas daily = $12 in gas weekly.
ride all the way to work is roughly a double in distance and gas used, but a lot more effort with hunting for parking in the financial district, plus tickets, plus changing tires at double the rate i am now (already at 3-4 rears / 2-3 fronts a year).

i wouldn't mind 30ish miles one way, but that would depend on the parking scenario. and if i could bart it to the front door instead, i would do that regardless of parking scenario.

40 min to work and 40 min home.....all cage fortunately as I'm at multiple locations with lots of materials. Reason why the two wheels was sold a year ago :(

Danville to North Fremont.

Freeway backsup I can take Foothiil to Niles. If there's an accident in Niles Canyon I'm proper fucked.

My buddy lives in Brentwood and works in Foster City...no BART. He's 140 miles each day :barf

27 miles one way.

I commute on the bike, unless it rains, so only 13 bucks a week for gas.

If I drive it is 20 bucks a day :cry

41 miles each way - SF to Los Altos. In the morning, it varies from 40-50 minutes. In the evening, 45-60 minutes, unless I leave late, then it's 90+ on 280 and it only takes like 35 minutes. If you're really planning to drive up, I strongly suggest 280 over 101 any day. You can switch at 380 if you need to be on that side of town. Also, consider the parking issue. Where in SF?

I've not figured my commuting costs as it will make me sad. :p

Fuck all you bitches! My commute is nearly 2000 miles. That's not a typo either. It's from Simi Valley CA to Atlanta GA. 1946 miles, not including the drive to the airport in LA.

I don't want to hear any whining about "my commute is so long, and horrible!" Mine usually happens on the back side of the clock, in a jump seat, that doesn't recline, and the seat angle is 90 degrees to the bottom. Usually takes about 7.5 hours from door to work, on a good day. The longest it has taken was almost 14 hours.

About fifty feet. :twofinger

About 100 Steps.

:thumbup

About 15 feet for me, bedroom to office.

Back when I did on-site gigs I'd have commutes up to 50 miles or so each way. Unfortunately didn't have a moto then.

Yeah, I don't think even my giant truck has an actual operating cost of $0.783 per mile. And the Prelude certainly didn't.

If your truck is new, you fincanced it, upgrated it and you dont hang on to it, a truck is more like $1/ mile. Read up on AAA math and do the math yourself.

If you bought your car used and hang on to it, the cost is really low.

My car expensis are very low. I bought a used car that has siped fule ate a rate of 64 MPG since I have owned it.

17.3 miles from South San Jose to Santa Clara (18.5 if I go up 85-87-101)

With no traffic, it's a 20-minute drive. With the brutal traffic lately, it takes me at least an hour. So, now this traffic is getting me back into shape. My gym is right by my office, and I go before and after work to avoid traffic.

I don't track how much gas I'm using.

About 30 miles from Loma Mar to Redwood Shores. Takes about an hour usually, but with repaving on highway 84 it's been more like 90 minutes. About $7 a day in gas.

30 miles each way from San Jose to San Carlos. Takes 35 minutes by bike an about an hour by cage :wtf

Funny, I take 280 both ways and I can see 101 from my office. Gas is around $4.50 a day :dunno

30 miles SF ---> Walnut Creek

I'm going opposite commute and odd hours so the range is 45misn-1.5hrs. I've got satellite radio and can listen to a whole host of news/music/programming which makes it a productive hour. I would ride in if it weren't for the wonky hours and helmet hair. :p

6.4 miles door to door on the little honda grom and it makes it a fun commute
