So, you are saying I'm wrong?

As I said, I'm on it every day, during the week I find traffic no problems at all, weekend is another story.

No, not really. Merely another observation on riding 17 during the week.

What time?

could have something to do with it. I'm usually getting on 17 from Summit at 6, and headed back up through LG around 4:30. Traffic moves pretty damn well, and very little jockying around, cept for the occasional jackass that thinks the right lane is the passing lane, only to squeeze back into the left upon reaching the slow car....

been doing it almost 18 months now, no close calls, and only about 4-5 times I've had to jump on old Santa Cruz Hwy because of traffic....

Correction

I passed the accident on the way to Santa Cruz....

It was a Silver Bike (possibly Kawasaki Silver..resembled a 636) there was a Blue R1 which was standing behind...

Hwy. 17 crash injures motorcyclist
By Deborah Lohse
Mercury News

* * *
The accident occurred at about 6 p.m., when an unidentified driver of the Escort, driving at an unsafe speed, rear-ended a white Chevy Suburban going northbound on Highway 17. The Escort's driver lost control, hit the highway's center divide and caused the motorcyclist, driving a Honda motorcycle, to crash into the Escort, according to CHP public affairs officer Steve Perea.

. . . There were no . . . no arrests . .. . , Perea said.

This is law enforcement?

Hold on....

Driving with a permit is not a bookable offense....

Driving without a license, 12500 (A) VC: is not a bookable offense.

Let the officer figure out exactly what happened, and let the courts do thier thing...

probably true, but getting involved/causing a major accident with injuries seems sorta like there would be legal repercussions.

maybe not for 12500, but for something.

You haven't been paying much attention lately have you? Remember the woman who killed a rider by rear ending him in near zero viz fog while doing 60? If I remember right she got a moving violation. Killing or injuring another motorist in an accident is not itself criminal. If you were doing something else criminal (driving under the influence or fleeing a cop) or you INTENDED to cause harm to another driver, then the injury or fatality makes it a more serious crime.

The AMA's been screaming about these sorts of things for years now.

Is reckless driving a bookable offense? It sure sounds like reckless driving to me!

It seems like the barriers between the fucktard who kills someone or some people and justice are pretty high in event of recklessness/bad judgement except in cases of intoxication. Seemingly drunkeness is punishable while stupidity is not.

Glen still has no real feeling below the waist due to the damage to his L4-L5. He also has a broken nose, broken rib, punctured lung, and they're draining the blood out of his lungs. Glen is having surgery today. They'll be putting a titanium support around his spine. The doctor says that over time (1-2 years) he should regain most or all of the use of his legs.

BTW...his bike was a black and silver 954.

Wow, that's intense. Thank you for the update.

First and foremost..... I hope the rider gets well soon.

Secondly, it wasn't reckless driving. It was driving to fast for conditions.

If LEO's took into custody every driver that caused a major crash due to HUA (Head Up Ass), then the jails would be filled with: Soccer moms, teenagers, business men, and all sorts of people who were doing something OTHER then focusing on driving.

can't argue with that.

Lest we forget, no matter how well you gear up, you are vulnerable to even the most "minor" accident. They are just that, accidents. Not all are intentional or reckless. Cager vs Cager, it is minor and both will be on their way. Cager vs Rider, and the result could prove fatal for the rider. So, it is a risk each one of us takes everyday we ride.

Perhaps not, but I hope this genius on wheels (and no license?) has the proper insurance to pay for the rider's recovery and bike.

Best wishes for a complete recovery for the rider.
