Illegal Urban Dirt Bikes - Why hasn't the craze caught on in the Bay Area

Hey! They're outside, they're not shooting anybody, they're not sucking a pipe or sticking anybody with a knife (no stereotypes please). Yeah, their young and cocky but have mad balance & throttle control!

I'd like to see this young talent parlay their skills into a moto-related career. They could be the 21st Century Moto equivalent of the Harlem Globe Trotters.

Why not? I'd pay to see 'em do a pre & halftime show at the super cross.

No lisence, no insurance and most of their bikes are stolen.
Yep, not a big deal.

You're right. I just watched the trailer and have done some reading. I've changed my opinion from praising them for their skills to condemning them for their attitude.

Trying to stop them will only get you branded as racist; redirecting their energies is probably a waste of time & money.

I don't blame them for their attitude, these kids are surrounded by adversity and poor role models the likes of which many in this forum have had no exposure to.

What's to be done?

I have seen shit on international, from Merritt to Mission, make you swear you are in a third worlder. There is no law there, which works both ways...

I misspoke. once you reach the pearly gates at the san leandro border, things get more 'normal'.

urban assault behavior is fun, but reflects badly on the community as whole.
maybe you are someone who wants to be feared by cagers..or maybe your someone who just wants them to leave you alone...

Bad ass T-rex today at 73rd. Oh and them splitting baggers. Damn some of them dudes can ride.

Yes I go out of my way to go that way just to see the craziness.

i dig this type of stuff...the riding that is. hooning is awesome:thumbup

that said, knowing that most, if not all of these bikes are stolen leaves a real bad taste in my mouth:mad

i would be just as enthused if i saw some dude run them down on "accident":teeth

just be happy and greatfull it has not.

last thing we need (as a moto riding comunity) is bad mojo with the local leo's and there buddys the judges.
bad press, pissed off cage drivers ( yes the socker mom's in the mini vans) would get hrs of air time (radio and tube) plenty of print space, and whole band widths.
getting the blind under the dome in sac to make our lives misarble.

CityBike contributor Courtney Olive wrote up this nice interview with "12 o' Clock Boys" director Lotfy Nathan"

Without getting into the debate here, I saw this tonight at the Roxie in SF and I think it is worth watching. And FWIW, I would not say that the filmmaker was "idolizing" the riders, just trying to share a very interesting and marginalized culture with the world; not just the riders, but the members of their own community who do not approve of their behavior.

Tomorrow is the last day I believe, I doubt there will be another opportunity to see it in a theater.

ok, who wrote "Oaklamd" in his comments?:laughing had to be one of you guys named Roman...likes assault kilts and guns n stuff:teeth

Is it just me, or is riding a moto without a helmet just stupid?

The term is "bike life"

Haha……nothing new here.
Hell, I was suspended in my senior year at Cupertino High for
riding a wheelie on my Honda CR 125 thru the center of a school
rally………..
AND THAT WAS 1975……
a1scoot :thumbup

Yep, can't criticize anyone who is "down wit da struggle" :thumbup

< not impressed with their "skillz" either.

Love the word "marginalized" btw.......isn't that supposed to be reserved for groups that deserve sympathy?

Urban bikers, Stunters or Squids, I'm just surprised they survive for very long. They may be the reason our accident statistics look so bad?

Lol at the weak ass riding in second video. Could barely even get the front wheel up. Wish red head 2 up rider would of succeeded in kicking that stack of tires. Would of peeled her right off the back or snapped her leg.
