Does anybody know the fee schedule for an impound here in the bay area? No, I wasn't drunk.

Was it impounded or stored?

If impounded, 5 days or 30?

Impounded, it will probably be in for a week or a little more. It takes money to get it out and it costs more money every day. I have no idea what I'm in for. It's a 30 day impound but I can get it out as soon as I take care of some issues with my license.

My 30 day was over 3k for a 16 hundred dollar bike. Even after they sold it they stuck me with a 14 hundred dollar bill. Get it out asap.

Sigh.... not enough info....

Why were you stopped? Why was the bike towed? Was the bike registered? Was there a non-op on file?

Can't help you if you don't provide all the details.

+1

also most agencies have different release fees im sure you could call the department that towed your ride and ask them what the release fee (to the agency) is

I used to have license troubles in my younger years because I couldn't stop speeding around and driving like a jackass. My car was subsequently impounded a total of 3 times whilst driving on a suspended license. Each time was over $1,000. Yeah it took me a while to learn my lesson. (also why I waited until just recently to get a sport bike ;) ).

I don't know what the going rate is right now but last I knew it was $34 +/- per day, plus tow fees etc. You're probably looking at around $1,300 when everythings said and done for the full 30 days. If you go to the police station and show a valid license they will allow you to get the bike before the 30 days. (after some fees of course).

Not always true. Mine was 30 days mandatory. (driving on a restricted licence, passing on a double yellow and no POI on hand))

Each agency decides what their release feee will be. For example my agency charges $282 for the release. My understanding is the CHP charges $0 for the release fee.

In order to get a vehicle out of impound, your typical cost will include:

Release fee to the the impounding agency
Tow fee from the towing company for towing your vehicle from the scene
Daily storage fees assessed each day your vehicle is held at the tow yard

If your vehicle was towed by Livermore PD you would be looking at:

$282 Release fee
$125 Tow fee (approx. depends on tow company)
$50 a day storage (starts the first day the vehicle is towed)

If you go a full 30 days you are looking at roughly $1900 to get your vehicle back.

Get your license taken care of ASAP, find the money and get your vehicle out of impound as quick as possible.

:wow 282 release fee!!

Yep, CHP does not charge for vehicle releases. Imagine how much $ we'd have if we did....

Plus the cost of all your stuff that's missing when you get your car back, & damage to the car.

Yep, was riding like a jackass, got taken for reckless driving. Your info is helpful, hopefully I'll be able to get the bike out this week and will ride it a little more sanely once I do. It was CHP which is, supprisingly, a relief if they don't charge a release fee. I'm paying the unpaid speeding ticket that put a hold on my license as we speak. I was planning on paying it this week, too.

I'm shocked, though. It seems it's cheaper to get impounded for breaking the law than to have your own stolen property recovered. My friend had his stolen bike recovered. We showed up the night he was called about it being recovered. The various police departments involved kept sending us back and forth between cities because they had no clue what to do. Once the bike was cleared, the tow yard was unavailable to release it. He was out $480something and $30 in back and forth gas in my truck for his own stolen bike and we were there the day we found out about it.

Was your license valid? Or suspended? If they took it for 30 days, you're still out a chunk of change. Good Luck.

oooh very true. I my case it was that simple.

I'm so glad the bulk of my stupidity is in my past :teeth

if you got your car impound and tow for 30 days, then when you go to court your case get dismiss and the citation for driving with suspended license get dismiss. Do the court refund your tow fees since the case is dismiss and your found not guilty?

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!

Also... If you leave it in there and they sell it off. Your Bike will still to continue to get a daily storage rate untill it's taken off the lot. If there is still a balance owned after the sale, you will still he held responsible for it.

Wow, car jail is getting really expensive, for $50 a day does the vehicle get washed and detailed?

I got charged $60/day storage for a fucking plated xr400 that I crashed... plus $200 for a 3 mile tow.
