Impound Fees

Was your license valid? Or suspended? If they took it for 30 days, you're still out a chunk of change. Good Luck.

Eh. My former office was notorious for releasing 30 day impound vehicles early. Regardless of how rightous the impound was. So frustrating. So OP, once you get your license taken care of it can't hurt to go into the appropriate office and ask for your vehicle back.

I had a suspended license because of an unpaid speeding ticket. I also got busted for going over 100 mph but I caught some leniency on that (still got the ticket but didn't get the misdemenor. The previous ticket is taken care of as of today. I still need to aquire a new license to get the bike out. I royally f'ed myself on this one. The CHP said I could get the bike back as soon as I got the license straightened out. As I told the people at work when I asked for the advance on my next pay check, I do stupid things sometimes but I do take responsibility for them. I'm not going to deny guilt on anything I got cited for because I commited it all.

I do have a personal vendetta against tow yards, though. They're more than happy to impound your vehicle but after my friends experience recovering a stolen bike and then my experience blowing out a tire on the highway, they're nothing but criminals. I blew a tire out at 1am and didn't have a spare. I called every tow yard I could find and none of them were willing to come until after 8am the next morning. I had to go to work. It is more profitable for them to make impounds than it is to assit the public. I also had my precious dirt bike in the back of the truck and wasn't willing to leave it on the highway. Finally, Cal Trans towed me home and I tipped the guy generously. The best part was, I didn't have to pay bridge toll. I included that in my tip.

100+ is no longer citable as a misdemeanor FYI

Feel free to prove me wrong, but 101+ by itself never has been as far as I know.

BTW:
100 = 22349(a), 1 pt
101 = 22348(b), 2 pts

I think if the officer is feeling generous they can write you up for 22349(a) for any speed, even 100+. Then you get to only have 1 point. If you are really lucky they might write your speed as 99 too :).

Wasn't lucky, got the 101+. I couldn't expect anything less. I don't think traffic school is going to be an option, though. I haven't used it yet but I hear they don't let you do it on citations like these.

To vnds1, when your vehicle gets impounded, you have to pay the money in order to get it out. It does not matter whether your case is dismissed or not. The impound is through a private company and if your vehicle sits in impound for 30 days, you owe them 30 days of impound fees.

To those who left in a vehicle rather than pay the impound fees, you don't necessarily have to pay a gross fee still. My friend got pulled over years ago for having a cracked windshield after his dad made his bug a chop top and cracked the windshield on install, got a ticket and never paid it. Bought a bike and it was registered and insured, but somehow his license was suspended along the way. Got pulled over and the bike was impounded, found out he'd have to pay a couple grand to get it back if he got the license deal sorted out within a couple days, then impound yard told him he'd have to pay $500 if he handed over the title. Asked if there was any other way, and eventually they said "how much do you have?", he said $50, and they called it even.

I love mine then, have to pay a couple hundred just to ask for it back.:laughing

Just to let you know. If you are ever stranded like that again you can call and ask for an officer to respond if you are having a hard time finding a tow. The companies on our rotation lists WILL respond when called regardless of what it's for.

Yeah, if they don't respond to a CHP call they can get kicked off the rotation.

Each agency decides what their release feee will be. For example my agency charges $282 for the release. My understanding is the CHP charges $0 for the release fee.

In order to get a vehicle out of impound, your typical cost will include:

Release fee to the the impounding agency
Tow fee from the towing company for towing your vehicle from the scene
Daily storage fees assessed each day your vehicle is held at the tow yard

If your vehicle was towed by Livermore PD you would be looking at:

$282 Release fee
$125 Tow fee (approx. depends on tow company)
$50 a day storage (starts the first day the vehicle is towed)

If you go a full 30 days you are looking at roughly $1900 to get your vehicle back.

Get your license taken care of ASAP, find the money and get your vehicle out of impound as quick as possible.

Communist scam fees.

performance tow in daly city held my bike for about a week and a half. fee was $75 dollars a day, and if i were to pick it up while they were closed, it would be an extra $100 dollars. never again will i stop for a cop. NEVER :twofinger

Because its the cops fault..:rolleyes You may get away most of the times, but one day you wont and those impound fees will be much more.
