Any suggestions on some good integrated LED mirrors? That are easy to install too! =] I saw a bunch on ebay but I cant find any reviews =(
 
ive got similar mirrors to the above ^

they work well enough. they dont vibrate too much and the visibility is good. so far theyr'e surviving touring and daily rain commutes.

What did you do about the holes in the fairing after you removed the stock blinkers?

Like a year ago I went through this "mirror" phase because I hated the stock look so much. I probably tried 6 diff mirrors, it was crazy. anyway, as for universal leds i had a pair of these and I liked them for a while.

And how come you stopped using the led mirrors?

I'd consider myself to be mildly mechanically challenged, and I figured it out and had everything wired up all in one Saturday afternoon. The only reason I stopped using the ones I posted was because I lowsided and lost one. :laughing

After that I ended up bolting on some '08 zx10r mirrors to my yamaha because the bolt pattern matched and I liked them.

But seriously, the mirrors I linked are very adjustable, offer good visibility, and the price aint bad either. :thumbup

edit - as for the holes left in the fairings, I just screwed in some smoked flushies from cycle gear for cheap.

Hey Collin, you also may need a different turn signal relay to deal with a faster flashing rate from installing the LED's.

Where can I get more information on that! If it just blinks faster, I guess I'm okay with it as long as its visible.
 
Legally, you're allowed up to a 2-blink/sec. rate. Faster than that and you may get a fix-it ticket. Personally, I think the higher rates attract more attention and is more visible. Here's a solid-state flasher relay that doesn't care about circuit-resistance:

A lot of modern bikes have solid-state relays as opposed to old-fashioned bi-metaliic/thermal relays. Check out how yours responds 1st. I know on my CBR, that the blink-rate remains constant regardless of whether I attach LED or incandescent filament bulbs.

My led mirrors/flush mounts haven't come in yet but I've been doing some research on how to install them and........ I think I'll need help! I found some posts on how to make led flushmounts running/turn lights but I haven't found any instructions on how to make BOTH the LED flush mounts and the LED mirrors as both running/turn signals like in this video.

The faster flash rate is your flashing circuit trying to tell you a bulb has burned out.

My bike has 10watt turn bulbs, a 10 ohm resistor draws 12 watts at 12 volts.

What you want is a resistor that in combination with your led lights draws at least as much as before, a little over is ok, but as I found out the hard way a little under triggers the fast flash rate.

I would leave some headroom in the resistor ratings too. Run a 10w rated resistor at 5w or less.

Assumimg your led lights draw a few watts on their own
Search for 10w wirewound resistors around 15-20 ohms and mount them where they can't melt anything because they will get hot. A few bucks each is about right for the price.

Hope you know how to wire in parallel...

Love the powerpoint wiring diagrams, now he just has to figure out what size resistor to buy.
 
Very basic 1st-semester high-school physics to determine resistor value needed. 1/ResistanceTotal = 1/R1 + 1/R2. Here's an online-calculator that does it for you: http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-paralresist.htm

1. measure resistance of original bulb. This is Rtotal.

2. measure resistance of LED bulb. Note that polarity is important, measure both ways and you'll find infinite resistance one way and lower-resistance the other. The lower resistance is R1.

3. plug into equation and pick Calculate to determine value of R2.

This is my first time really doing anything on my bike, so I appreciate all the help.

It looks like I'm going to have to buy a volt meter to measure the resistance?? I wonder if I can just buy one, use it, and then return it haha

You'll need the voltmeter to troubleshoot regulator/stator issues in the future, so might as well pick one up now.

As with many things, gathering objective quantifiable data is important. Without knowing the exact impedance of your original bulbs and LED bulbs, it's impossible to determine the resistance of the load resistors you'll need.
