If it wasn't Jim France and the MotoST guys doing the buying they wouldn't be holding the press conference at Jim France's track.

This oughta be interesting...

well, if it happnes, i'm not sure if i like it or not. but i will say this: i'd much rather it's in the hands of bill france than tony george or bernie ecclestone.

did i just really type that? :(

They couldn't screw it up any more than it is, the AMA is a wrecking ball for racing.

Well, whether you like NASCAR or not (I for one think it's the most boring of motorsports around), the folks behind it have made it wildly popular. Maybe they can do the same thing for motorcycle road racing. Who knows, it could end up being bigger than NASCAR when people begin to realize how much more exciting it is.

I think Roger Edmundsen will be in charge and he knows what he's doing. This is good for the sport.

I'm inclined to agree, but only because they do know how to cross promote extremely well.

More specifically, the AMA is looking for an entity to handle the marketing and promotion side of things. AMA SBK is not being sold. AMA Pro Racing will still handle the actual racing component of the series.

I agree and Motorcycle racing has a larger world wide base than Nascar stock cars ( nothing about those dam cars is stock)

Maybe Speed:barf channel will ram SBK down our throats as they've done with NAStyCAR. I'm not holding my breath tho.

I've been pleasantly surprised how well the France family has pulled off road racing in the form of Grand Am and Moto ST, but moto road racing will never be as popular as stock cars, because the unwashed masses can not relate to it the way they can relate to a Ford, Chevy or Dodge...

still, this series can't really get worse, and for sure, the France family knows how to sell entertainment.

Bernie Ecclestone made Formula One a multi-billion dollar entity.. he'd do wonders for AMA.

He can't control everything. The biggest problem is that car makers started seeing the advertising potential and made it very hard for a privateer to compete.

This has already happened to a degree with AMA, but it's always going to be a little bit easier for privateers when the machines are production based.

Which brings up an interesting point. The "billboard space" on bikes is way less than that available on cars. So, I wonder if they'll dictate that motorcycles have to be a certain minimum size so they can get all their advertising on there and make it big enough for the cameras to see it? Are we going to start seeing 8' long superbikes?

The latest aero rules in F1 are mostly for advertising purposes. :|

kyle, i'd argue that turning F1 into a multi-billion dollar entity is a big part of what sucks about it (keep in mind i'm ancient, so i see it from a jackie stewart, nikki lauda viewpoint).

Jim France has been into motorcycles for a long time, he raced AMA flat track for at least 5-6 years back in the era of Mert Lawwill and Gene Romero.

I think the new group will do fine, their MotoST series seems to be well run.
