I've been riding without gear

I should have called a cab right?

It's your call. I probably would have sat in the shade while I rehydrated and rested. In jobs past, when I had experiments that ran late into the night, I would take a short nap before heading home on my bike, if I was so tired that my mental focus was compromised.

I just think these are important things to consider, and things that are not always brought up. There are active and passive means of protection. Gear is passive, and I don't feel safe without it on. Mental alertness is active, and I don't feel safe without that on, either.

Being warm makes people feel less fragile.

The pavement doesn't care about the weather, its an equal opportunity meat grinder.

Dammit Var, look what you've started! Just ride the way you feel comfortable. Some days you just don't feel like throwing on all the gear. When it's so hot out that speeding up just means more hot air, sometimes the gear comes off. It is what it is. Your most important tool is between your ears. Oh yeah, how was the after party for GP?, had to take the wifey home after the first superbike run.

No pity for self inflicted... :thumbdown
Do what you want, just don't expect everyone to say "oh poor you" when you put your body to the cheese grater you tard. :x
Smells like... troll. :rolleyes

"Wah wah I ride without gear. Please talk sense into me!"
Troll/attention whore. Just sad. :rolleyes

Ah. I see. All of 79 posts, a member on BARF for less than 2 months... but you can spot a troll from a mile away. What mad skillz you possess... :rolleyes
Hmmm... the Troll Force is strong in this one...
You don't know the OP, you're new here. Simmer down, Sparky.
And FYI- namecalling is a violation of TOS.

Gear or no gear, it's a personal choice. I am far from a gear Nazi. Still, the message we would like to send to those newly joining the ranks is that gear is better than no gear.

What's retarded is seeing a bunch of clearly experienced riders giving each other hi-5s about not wearing gear... How many years of practice and experience have you had in spotting and avoiding dangerous situations in commute conditions? How many years has Johnny-come-lately had? Wouldn't gear be a nice back-up to his lack of experience, judgement, and skills?

At the end of the day, "wear your gear" is simply a public safety announcement, no different from that of "safe sex". Would you catch AIDS and die if you don't wear rubber? Well, that depends. Would you sport-fuck without wearing rubber? If so, I hope you have perfected the art of spotting them virgins.

Wear your gear.

Could not agree more!! :thumbup

I appreciate you guys and gals challenging me.

Var, I just want to always see you looking as handsome as you do now... ;) And road rash would change that!! :cry
So if it's hot, and you're overheated and dehydrated, then get a little bit of rest, drink some water, put your head under the faucet and cool down a bit before donning gear. And like others have said- wet shirts under leathers feels good! :)

I ride to work in the am at o'dark thirty so the trip in is not too bad.
Going home, I ride from Livermore (which has been warm as of late, ) back into the valley to Modesto. Kinda Hot. (Triple digits)

I have been wearing one of these under my leather and it has made a major difference!

I don't think one plans to crash.

Which is why after mulling it over in my kitchen in most of my gear, I finally just pulled on my overpants for the ride to work.

Wisdom and the ability to spot a troll is not based on number of posts nor time on a single board. Do you really think this is the first BBS I've ever been on? ;)

"Tard" isn't name calling. It's a term of endearment. ;) :laughing

I don't recall saying anything about "wisdom"...
And you are very new on teh BARF, Sparky... so again, simmer down... because if you had actually been on this FORUM for any length of time, you'd know Var is about as far from being a troll as you can get.

If you're calling it a "BBS", then yes, I do.
BBS = Bulletin Board System. Old name for such online forums. Learn some history.

No, you just implied heavily.
Simmer down? Who's excited? And the name is not "Sparky". What was that about violations of the TOS? Pot to Kettle. Come in Kettle... :rolleyes

Good lord people.... The "troll" bit was more tongue-in-cheek than anything. At least Var got it. Looks like the rest of you leaping to his defense against the "n00b" are the ones that need to "simmer down". :rolleyes

I know exactly what a BBS is. I was dialing into them via a 300 baud acoustic-coupling modem on a TRS-80 Model I and an Apple ][+ while you were probably still in diapers.

Learn some respect. Also, learn some contemporary terms. Web-based discussion forums are generally referred to as "forums". Anyone calling them BBSes is just being pretentious.
