Jeep, Cliff, Bike Trail, Idiot.

Someone remind me of that shortcut for mechanical advantage multipliers + pulleys - you count the number of lines and that's your multiplier? Or it doubles for each line?

Example: Winch > pulley on stuck vehicle > anchor back at winch vehicle is a 2x advantage (minus a few points for friction or whatever but 2x is close enough for estimating).

What's the MA for winch > pulley on stuck vehicle > pulley on winch vehicle > anchor on stuck vehicle?

Or subsequently, winch > pulley on stuck vehicle > pulley on winch vehicle > pulley on stuck vehicle > anchor back on winch vehicle? You'd have 4 line count (2 loops) on the stuck vehicle and 4 on the winch vehicle but only 1 loop around the pulley at that end....argh I haven't done the calculations in so long.

edit - here we go. It'd be 4x advantage :

"You can't do a video about snatch blocks without getting a Jeep stuck, so let's go do that." lol

Lol. I spent 3 weeks getting my H8 ASI, the entire time I was at the course I was like “man I wish I could bring a Jeep out here to play...”

Why would they not be able to afford Jeeps?

I think the point is that you assumed the people were hired day laborers, rather than actual 4wd enthusiasts. For some reason (ahem racism), you seem to have decided that the white dudes were part of the club and the hispanics were hired day laborers, based on the color of their skin.

I know it's odd, considering your strong social justice warrior background. But that's the way it came across to him and that's the way I read your comment too. Might want to do some deep introspective thinking about your preconceived notions.

Sadly, I also picked up that vibe, which is why I pointed out the local group connection. A Facebook group I’m in has comments about the primary language being spoken. As if that has anything to do with ownership, or competence.

Obvious they were day labourers. If those were Spanish owned Jeeps they'd be rolling on 10" rims and riding 1" off the ground. They wouldn't have gotten within miles of that spot before bottoming out.

I specifically said I wasn't sure what happened here.

I just thought the dynamic in the video of a bunch of white guys sitting around watching, while a bunch of Mexican Americans did all the work, reminded me of the stereotype of some white guy starting an ambitious home improvement project, getting in way over his head, and then going to home depot to hire some guys to fix the mistakes and finish the project.

"Now you have two problems."

Hey, I recognize it's a stereotype. All I'm saying is it reminded me of that stereotype.

And yes, everyone's a little bit racist. It'd be almost impossible to grow up in the US and not be.

Racist comments on a 4x4 Facebook group? I’m shocked, Shocked!

for future entertainment value i really wish Ford had done the recovery. from there it would only be a matter of time before Heep retaliates, and then ford, then heep, then someone with an H2 would probably probably try to 2 up both manufacturers and eventually there would be a tank battle.

This ain’t helping your cause but does narrow the “stereotype” to a country.

I was impressed with backing the Jeep out, maybe just that I’m forward thinking and dislike turning around.

If you are very curious, my entire experience with Jeep enthusiasts was as a kid. They were all Middle aged white guys who owned or were part of the management team for construction companies/contractors in Utah. Once or twice a year they would plan a big offroading trip to Moab and Canyonlands, My dad worked with them, and had to ingratiate himself with them. He would always be invited along, and it was somewhat expected that one or two of us kids would come along. So yes, I have a specific stereotype for what image pops into my head when I hear 'jeep enthusiast'. I know that it's not really accurate and there are all types, that's just what I picture.

I thought it was pretty impressive as well, though I know very little about Jeeping.

Now, mind, I live down here. Where this happened isn't very far from me.

And never crossed my mind that they didn't happen to have a Jeep club filled with Spanish speaking folk. Looked like a normal every day Jeep group to me. And it didn't flumox me one bit that the speaker on the video was speaking english.

This is just Southern California writ large in a small space going on here.

Welcome to every day.
