Nice work.

A word of warning about riding to/on the playa. Your shit won't just get dusty. It's going to get corroded.

Your Car
If you drove your car to the playa, wash it as soon as you can after returning home, because the alkaline dust can corrode your electronics, and do damage to your upholstery, plastics, etc. Before you do anything, get an air compressor (or go to the air station at your local gas station) to blow all the dust off your engine. (Unless you really know what you’re doing, don’t spray water on your engine, as it can damage your sensitive electrical components.) -{snip}- Then wash your car with a splash of white vinegar in the soapy water. Vaccuum the hell out of it with the strongest vaccuum you can find, and then use Armor All on your plastic and leather parts, as it cuts the alkaline playa dust really well.

Even after you've done all this, expect to suddenly find parts of your bike not working once you get back to the Bay Area and the hidden alkali dust + the Bay Area's humid air start to get together and do really nasty stuff to your bike you couldn't even pay a Tenderloin hooker to do.

You have been warned.

Seriously yo, I wouldnt take such a nice bike out there. The sand will be in your bike for years, my old 2012 Outback been to the Burn 2x and the sand still there to this day in some places. Runs fine dough against all odds.

Did none of you see Mad Max: Fury Road? Required reading.

I don't own garage queens. I use the ever living shit out of every bike I own. I also maintain them meticulously. What the fuck is the point of a state of the art Supermoto if it can't handle a little bit of dust. Doesn't sound very super to me.

Test flight in the next couple of days.

What did you use to bend the steel? Part of the reason I've never tried DIY'ing a luggage rack was because I don't have welding skills. But your setup looks great.

I have friends setting up some parts of the Playa. They were telling me that the bugs were mostly gone by the time we were hearing about it here in the real world. That didn't stop one of them from getting sick by accidentally dousing himself in bug spray - like Raid, not topical meant to be applied to the human body stuff.

I'm prepared either way.

If you get the right thickness, you'll be able to freehand bend it using vice grip/monkey wrenches. If you go up a couple grades, you will still be able to use a bench vice. It's pretty easy to work with.

As you know, that bike is a weapon.. I know mine is. You can ride, at what seems like, ludicrous warp, barely on the edge of control, but you know in your mind, that it is completely under control, not even close to losing it.

Have fun out there, I can't think of a better bike to take out there.

I don't mean to get romantic on a bunch of BARF assholes, but this bike is my personal fighter jet. This is as close to soaring as I'll likely come in my lifetime and I'm thankful for every day I come home unscathed.
