hey liam, went to american sportbike night last monday night because i heard you would be there. what happened?????

I ended up going for a fantastic walk through the Presidio (4.5 hours worth of walking) and I ended up without transport to the eastbay. The timing of the day, January 1st, complicated things somewhat so I'm sorry I didn't make it out. I hope you still had a good time, though!

does that mean that you can get sworn into Congress using this?

here's hoping we 3 connect live in Yurrup this season

No worries, you know where I'll be come Sundays!

To everyone to came out to the Pig and Whistle, it was great to see you all again, and to those I just met, I hope to see you again in the future!

I'm back in Barcelona for about 1.5 days, before heading to the Ducati Factory in Bologna, Italy, once again - this time to make the final preparations for our first two preseason tests in Sepang, Malaysia, and Phillip Island, Australia. Who knows - maybe I'll get some surfing in this winter after all?!? I had wanted to make it back home to Hawaii to see my dogs this past Xmas, but it was not to be. With the reversed weather schedule in Australia, it's going to be a bloomin' good Summer, Summer, Summertime!

Thanks Everyone. Now that I'm back in Europe, I can really get down to business and get back up to speed. I really needed to take a big break from the computer these last couple weeks, but in the next week or so I should be updating my website quite a bit, and also posting a bit on Barf. It's been an incredible holiday for me, and I really want to give a huge shout out and thank you to Brad and Maryann Reynalds, who put me up for the duration of my stay in San Francisco. There's so much to talk about!! Stay Tuned!

Happy New Year Liam!
Shame I haven't run into you this time around but know that Christine and I have our eyes on this thread & your homepage and can't wait for the season to start up again.
As usual, keep the updates coming broham!

One crummy flight from BCN on Iberia, and I'm coming to you direct from Bologna! Time to grab some pizza and beer. . . . . . as if!

This trip to the Ducati Factory is even more breathtaking, eye-opening, and important to me than the first one I made in November. There is a wealth of knowledge and racing heritage just waiting to be absorbed - just wish I had more time. That's one of the secrets to life. . . . . make the most of every opportunity you get to expand your life experience.

I'm spending my time in another secret vault of coolness at the Factory, and the Marlboro team is here as well, prepping for the flyaway practices. Get ready for some really cool things. . . .

There are a bunch of 1098S's just laying around, in various levels of completion. I can't believe all the neat stuff here, I'm in awe. I wish I had more time, more time.

Rock On!

Dayum. Look at all those racebikes. Better there, than in the crusher. :confused

I don't see any 15's though. Were all of Gibbers bikes relabeled for Capi?

SAAWEEET!!

Actually, some of those 65's are my bikes from last season. And my new bikes? SHAZAM! I can't wait to get this party started! Bring on January 22nd. I have a personal opinion that the Hondas will get incrementally faster and stronger with each preseason test. . . . as they raise the rev limiters on their bikes. If anyone has some sounds clips from the previous Sepang and Jerez tests you might try and guess the actual RPMs the Honda's are pushing.

If guesses are correct I've seen around that the 800cc honda is just a 990 v5 minus the the lone piston ((4/5)*990=792)... I would imagine the revs wouldn't be much different than the old 990 unless they used a shorter stroke and correspondingly wider bore.

What's a 990 rev out to? 16k RPM? Ya think the 800's are up to 17k?

Oh, C'mon Moth! Big Red has had 5+ (actually, probably way more) years of developing the 990, what makes you think they would do something as simplistic as lopping off a cylinder to make an 800? They're an engineering company first! For certain, the battery and charging system have been upgraded to run the more complex electronics/ controls. The 990's used the Honda Monkey (50cc four stroke) battery, but the 800 is running a bigger one, and also in a different location. The wiring loom looks pretty intense, also. Presumably the engine internals are constantly undergoing finite element analysis, and improving step by step. Anyway, the main thing is that it's really difficult and expensive to make BIG changes every year, and this change to the 800's is the chance for all the factories to rewrite what they've got and take some radical steps forward. There's no doubt in my mind that this bike is more complex than the last - and as it's going to be the foundation for HRC's reputation for the next few years, it's probably going to be good.

Bwahahahahahaha! :laughing You should know the answer to this one.

I can't remember who sent me this photo, so thanks in advance whoever you are.

I think it's getting to be a lot trickier now, because there are so many factors to consider to actually make it a full race distance. I also see that Big Bangs are gone, and the Screamers are changing. How would you modify a screamer and yet still keep it a screamer?

P.S., found enough clues on this machine, which I found displayed in the official Ducati shop, to know that it was my bike last year.

I'm back in Barcelona for almost a week, trying to get caught up on emails, figure out some new systems we're working with, and increase the professionalism of my team. We're off for a couple weeks to Sepang and Phillip Island, and I hope to finally get some surfing in this winter. Any Australian Barfers out there near Melbourne?

990 revs + approx 20%

BTW, happy NY! Let's hope for a prosperous with loads of 'Valencia-style' parties. Speak soon Liam.

Liam - With your new position, will you travel w/the team? If so, I'll have to find you and say 'ello.

Yes, I will be present with the team at all times in 2007. We're changing, modifying, and performing maintenance after every session, and that's where I come in. Also, in the event of a crash, I have to get everything ready for the bike to make it trackworthy ASAP. I will be working a lot more than I was last year, including travel to the Factory and also to our raceshop outside of Madrid, maybe once a month or so, so I'm more strung out than ever. Funny thing is, I had an option to move to a Factory squad for 2007, but I wouldn't have gone to all the races and I turned it down for that reason. I didn't make it to the Jerez preseason test because I was at the Duc Factory at the time, getting some of the stuff ready for '07. I can't wait, really. I will be headed to Malaysia on the 19th, and after the Sepang tests, I should have some free days in Melbourne/Phillip Island before that test. I'm not sure what's up for February yet, other than Qatar and the IRTA test at Jerez, but it's clear that even before the season kicks off, we're working a ton and trying to get the kinks sorted out. I've always said that good guys wear black. . . .but we might change things up just a little bit for 2007. . . . .
