Looks Yamaha-ish to me.

Yessss indeed :thumbup

Yamaha SZR660, which should be the same engine as the XT660 Motard and also used in the MZ's, like Baghiras, and whatnot. But don't quote me on that, haha. Sorry the photos were a little fuzzy, camera phone action at work and then I blurred out the Yamaha stickers in a couple places on the body work and engine. The headlight kind of reminds me of a TL1000S. . . but the TL is a plain ole' brute and I'll always have a soft spot for those.

And speaking of neat little rides, a reader by the name of Sasha sent me this photo of his racebike in Israel. Didn't know they raced there, but I guess anytime there's more than one person. . . there's bound to be a race :)

Niiiice. Is US like the only place obsessed with displacement?

Basically yes. Displacement is displacement all over the world. There will always be someone who wants more CC's but the US is stupid in the regards of driver training/licensing of cars, motorcycles, boats, whatever.

I believe in all the states (it's true in both IL and MI) that one license covers all displacement levels with very minimal driver training for any two wheeler. I can go in and read the lame endorsement book, pass the test and then take an easy "road test" (read: ride through a maze painted in a parking lot) Hell, I can go down to the motorcycle store and buy a 1000 GSXR and not even have an endorsement.

In Europe and Asia, they have different tiers of licensing. IMO this helps teach better vehicle control (even though there are asshats in all CC's) and lends to a 'respect' for the machine between his/her legs.

Personally, I wish we could have small 400cc bikes here that handle like they'e on rails and not 1300cc behemoths that go fast 1320 ft @ a time.

[/soapbox]

It sure looks like it, but then it's a little more open here than in Europe. They have some mighty narrow streets there, would be tough to navigate a big R1 or a ZX 12 around them.

You're right about it being a race as long as there's 2 bikes.

:applause

In the eastern states of Australia, we've just started a Junior Racing series for kids 13-17. It's using a race-prepared version of a Honda 125 4 stroke single that's sourced from Thailand.

The kids are taking it very seriously and it looks like providing a valuable training ground for future road-racers. Most of these kids already have heaps of bike skills having graduated from a dirt-bike background, but they sure show some talent.

There was a similar series here about 10 years ago and some of the names that graduated through it were Parkes, Coxhell and Vermeulen!

Here's the web site if you'd like to have a look at what they're doing.

That's great!!! That's what kids need to light the fire and hopefully keep it going through life w/motorbikes and racing.

Wish my Dad was into that sorta stuff when I was young. Oh well...I guess I'll have to find a girl and have some rug rats... :teeth :laughing

That's awesome. I love this part of the rules:

Juniors Points (Marketability, Attitude, Character and Skill)

With the CBR150 Junior Class there will be points awarded as normal for on track performance. This will entail the usual 25 points for first, 20 for second all the way down to 1 point for twentieth. These points will be awarded in the final race at each meeting only. This will determine the winner of the class.

However there will be a further 8, 5, 3, 2 and 1 points awarded to riders in the class that are judged to have the “MACS factor”. These points will be added to the on track points. MACS stands for Marketability, Attitude, Character and Skill.

In the professional world of road racing these are attributes that are important to teams and sponsors alike. In fact these are things that are taken into account at the Red Bull Rookies Cup trials. So it is important that we encourage the appropriate behaviour in this class. In this way we will have a Red Bull prize winner and a class winner. If the fastest rider also has marketability, character and the right attitude, then there is every chance that the one rider will be both the class winner and the prize winner. However if the on track winner has a bad attitude, it is possible that the second, third or even fourth fastest on track will win the Red Bull prize.

The additional points will be decided by a panel of 3 judges who will be present at every round. Although this decision may be seen as some to be contentious, it does promote real world activities and give the winner of the Red Bull prize a real chance of progressing through the trials to the Red Bull Rookies Cup.

Dang! You are good - I figured that one would stump most, if not all, of the people on the board!

It's a 3.5, in rough but rideable condition. I found it at an "Okupo" residence in the Northern area of the city, near Park Guell. The Okupo are a group of diehard Catalans who frequently "Squat" in abandoned or condemned buildings. The Okupo have a political movement going that seeks to promote the Catalan Culture, secede from the Spanish Government (they want an independant Catalunyan Nation), and it's common to find Okupo graffiti throughout the city. Many people here (the true locals) say that the trend towards mullets with buzzcuts and dreadlocks came from Okupo fashion sensibilities . . . . I have yet to capture one of these outrageous hair-do's, but if/when I do, I'll be sure to post it up here. Frick'd Up will know exactly what I'm talking about (Hi Frick!).

Boo-YAH!!!! AXIO joins MotoGP

Don't know if this counts as a "scoop" but I don't think this has been made public yet :) I want to say a HUGE WELCOME to another American Company who has made the commitment to sponsor a team in MotoGP! :thumbup WAY TO GO GUYS!!!!!!

"Axio is pleased to announce its partnership with the Pramac Dantin MotoGP team for the 2007 season.

As a flagship of this association, AXIO has created a limited–edition, hard-shell pack to commemorate the partnership. Bearing the Pramac Dantin name and adorned in white and red livery, the polycarbonate hard-shell pack is available to the consumer, and will also be utilized by the Pramac team for the 2007 MotoGP season.

Axio was selected as the official supplier to the Pramac d’Antin Team for their unique and technical designs that mirror the qualities and spirit of MotoGP racing and the Pramac Dantin Team alike.

This partnership marks the beginning of Axio’s involvement in the MotoGP arena. Look for these Axio items at MotoGP races worldwide, and the official website of Pramac Dantin MotoGP team."

Yee-Hah! My favorite computer bag is joining me in MotoGP - so I won't need to switch to something I wouldn't like! Huge thanks goes out to Bob Haro (yes, the super awesome BMX'er) for helping me put our two organizations together, and for the fantastic design work. More info at
