*Liam's Wild Ride*

Chris Vermeulen put in a solid effort today, and was fifth in the wet today, ahead of a lot of good riders.

Toni Elias looks great in the corners. It will be interesting to see how his career develops under the watchful eye of former World Champ, Alex Criville.

Speaking of looking good in the corners! I wonder if we could arrange a contest in the off season to see who could scrape elbow more, Hopkins or Spies? Everytime I get a shot like this I'm reminded of Hopper's motocross background, and I always think to myself, "Elbows out! Elbows Out!"

It's probably the era that I grew up in, but seeing the flash of Orange always makes me think of speed. I like this shot because of the streaks - there's a real element of movement here.

Eventually, the clouds started dumping, so we went back to the Paddock and had a fantastic lunch in the circuit restaurant. I had roast chicken with plums and some kind of Risotto, along with salads, fruits, and more. It was a catered buffet, very elegant and chic. Best of all? It was affordable, healthy, and delicious, and sure beats the over-priced fastfood you find at the concession stands in the US. The timing couldn't have been any more perfect, as it was pouring outside while we were inside having a hot meal. Lots of envious looks from the passerby's, but hey, they should have made reservations, :laughing. As we were finishing up the timed contest started and the crowd in the stands was roaring! Such gusto, and every time a bike fired up, or left the paddock, the crowd erupted into cheers and whistling.

Did I mention there was a crowd? For a test?!?

I had a great time talking with industry people, reporters, racing greats, and just good people involved in the sport. Spent some time talking with Chris Jonnum from Road Racer X, and I expect some cool articles from him in the future. Also, bumped into Gary McCoy in the paddock; always a pleasure to meet the King of Slide :) Discussed the factories and their futures with Michael Scott, Julian Ryder and Burgess, and just generally did my thing, bumming around and enjoying myself. Pretty soon people will think I work here! At least, that's the plan!

Until next time my friends, I'm going to take a nap!

Hey, Liam.
Love reading all that's going on in your part of the world.

Can't wait to get to Spain and see it for myself.

Take care and sleep as much as you can, with GP just around the corner and WSBK just taking off, you may not be able to snooze as much as you like until the season is over.... :laughing

Later

Liam, I've been reading this post whenever I can over the past week or so and I have to say that it's been very inspirational to me. What you're doing takes balls. I'm loving the pictures, especially of the cars and bikes we never see in america, so keep 'em coming. If I were in your position, I would be journaling this for myself in a lot more detail and try and sell it as a book. Motorcycling is getting bigger over here, someone would pick it up, and I know that I would buy it given the chance.

That is a hard bike to forget! Great to see it again.

Hey Liam, I have a few questions, some you may have answers to, and some you may not be "able" to answer. Either way, that's ok. In World Superbike, are they using ceramic bearings or roller bearings in the mains. Are they using ceramic bearings anywhere else such as the transmissions?

I've searched fairly hard, and I can't come up with a complete set of rules, just notes as to what has been changed, does anyone know where I can look at them?

BMW is coming to MotoGP

Man, what a nap! Look at what I woke up to. I had to let this information come to light on it's own before I said anything about it. And, no, it didn't come from me.

BMW is coming to MotoGP!
Roadracing World has some more information but the gist of it is that BMW will be there in '07 when the engines switch to 800cc.

Now who could field such an effort? Traditionally BMW has outsourced it's team support, leasing the equipment rather than running a full factory effort. No one really knows many details at this point, but my sources and my gut suggest this:
Sito Pons is still involved in MotoGP, and despite stepping down as president of IRTA last week and not fielding a team this year, he is still active. I caught him on Saturday in Montmelo rolling up to the track at 11:34 AM, nice suit, sweet Porsche, and making several visits to various teams in the paddock. Sito's team members aren't working for anyone else this season (the core group that is), and he still has his spot reserved in the Paddock. All they need is a sponsor and a bike! Anyone else thinking there might be some interesting wildcard entries as early as this season? I'm not saying this is what's going to happen, but I'm hoping it will. :teeth

On that note, I'm getting ready to head to Qatar tomorrow for round four of the Losail National Cup.

Wingnut, I can't comment on detailed engine/tranny info. And the rulebooks for GP and SBK are Thick!

Thanks Liam, I understand. There have been talks of building a "superbike" motor at our shop just to see how much power we can get without factory support, and it would be cool to know what's legal in SBK or MotoGP so we have limits. I know that the rules are a lot more stringent than they are in say, formula pacific.
