Lightning Electric Motorcycles

Lots of folks with bicycle and dirt backgrounds will understand LHRB and it's easily Google-able.

But I doubt there's a price point concern for a left hand rear brake. If it's done at production, the cost difference will be minimal, if any, and it can be an upgrade / option at purchase for a bit of additional revenue.

That is funny because I started racing mountain bikes in the 90's, I worked at Mikes Bikes as a mechanic for a couple of summers and my last job in engineering was in the bicycle industry locally. I never noticed anyone write LHRB and LHRB is very rare for bicycles.

What I said price point being difficult, I meant for the whole motorcycle.

Damn Butch.... I thought you rode the big bike! :laughing

Still... cool. :teeth

It looks like Zero is calling it GromReaper

It is fookin brilliant, as long as it is the same price as a Grom. With triple the HP. Yes!

They literally took a grom a shoved an electric motor in there...

not much room for battery. I'm guessing this might get 15 miles to a charge at best. they are probably gonna wanna upgrade the swing arm.

I'm all for e motos, but this looks like a dud to me.

regarding LHRB, it wouldn't surprise me if they couldn't legally come from the factory that way. My understanding is that federal law defines what controls go where on motorcycles.

I think only the electric crowd will understand that LHRB = Left Hand Rear Brake.

My scooters were LHRB

I've always had my bicycles with a LHRB. It fucks up other folks if I let them ride my mtn bike...
Having the front brake lever on the right is how most folks in Europe have bikes set up. Perhaps it is too much for ordinary Americans.

My mind switches over automatically for bicycles.

My guess is that they took a Zero FX 3.6 motor, controller and battery brick. That is 46 miles of city range with the 3.6 kWh battery and 27 HP. The range might be better than the tall and knobby FX.

I was sworn to secrecy to not release these pictures until the bike had been posted on social media but here they are! Plus if you watched my video you probably saw it in there briefly. Maybe they can sell it as a kit for a Grom haha.

It was confirmed by a fellow Zero rider at Refuel Laguna Seca that they do have the Zero 3.6 kWh brick in the GromReaper, so the range would be good for that kind of bike, unless you do Grom ADV rides.

More than 40-something miles is an ADV ride? :laughing

A Grom's tank is 1.45 gallons, and Honda claims 134 MPG. Even in serious hooligan mode, you'll get way more than 40-something miles of riding in, like at least 100. I know, because I've done it, a bunch of times, and I've also ridden the 40-something mile range Zeros and Altas. 40-something miles isn't acceptable range for any motorcycle that will be ridden on the street, for me. I'm sure I'm not alone in that, even talking about minibikes.

On Fuelly, the Grom is ~100 MPG - that's not bad. I think <40 mile EVs suck, I think <60 mile EVs suck.

Yet, I would like to see what percentile a 40 mile ride is for a Grom. I bet its really low for a Grom and 40 mile range would be acceptable.

I don't know if you'd want to ride a grom for 60 miles =P

The Empulse is a 60 Mile EV BTW. For me it good enough to get around town and the surrounding cities. I can pretty much hit up every mountain pass around San Jose also. Can go farther if I charge at a station also. I think range is not much of an issue if you can charge your bike fairly quickly. You get access to all the EV parking also =P
