LinkedIn and toxic positivity

LinkedIn is the only "social media" that I've ever participated in and I only did that when I was still looking for another job back in 2015. I still get notes asking me if I know somebody and would like to add them to my contacts. What bugs me the most about LinkedIn is that the only choice is "Yes, connect". I want an option of "no, I've never heard of this person, please don't ask again!"

If you're seeing the suggestion in your notifications, click the three dots on the right and just select "turn off" to stop those kinds of notifications.

I'm not seeing it.

The email requests for connecting to people that I may know don't have any little dots. The main LinkedIn page has three dots, but I don't see where I can tell it to stop sending me connection suggestions.

My email notification doesn't look at all like that. But I did notice an unsubscribe link at the bottom, so maybe I have what I want after all. :dunno

Right, because you have to be logged in online to see that in your notifications as I said firstly. I don't think there's much you can do from the emails other than unsubscribe from them. I don't get those emails as you can setup what kinds of emails LinkedIn is allowed to send you from your account online and I have most of them all turned off.

Totally FB and not LinkedIn. It's also odd that you would explicitly credit a photographer for a basic photo of (your) washing machine.

It's pretty much always been social media by the definition of social media. But the intent WAS networking, posting career accomplishments, resume uploads, milestones, etc. Which it was for awhile. Social with a professional intention for working class folk to talk just about career discussions, opportunities, etc.

Then people started using it as another platform for things they would crosspost to other personal social media platforms too.

Craigslist was pretty much a "secret" place for the Silicon Valley folks in the 90's. Obviously, its devolved (evolved?) into what it is today. LinkedIn can get a bit like FacePalm. Not a good thing because its heavily supported by subscription.

For me, its becoming a spam magnet.
