My buddy bought some motorcycle type leather and then stiched and velcroed them into his denim pants. It seems like a really good idea.

I was thinking of going one step beyond and adding some armor as well into the pants. That way I can get the look of jeans and some sort of safety.

Does anyone know a place in the east bay around walnut creek that will sell this type of leather?

My buddies mom did this for him and he doesn't know where she got the leather from.

consider also kevlar fabric.

re: the armor - if you're thinking velcro-in-place regular padding, consider wearing MX style pads too. I prefer these since they strap to your legs vs. loose leg jeans that might have the pad moving on a dump.

do not attempt track speeds with this setup too, it's no replacement for true leathers. but a damn sure better thing than no gear at all.

Hmm... it didn't even occur to me to think about the pads moving during a slide.

Maybe I could line the whole inside with kevlar/leather and then put the tuff stuff in the critical areas.

Also If the jean fabric wears through where the stiching is I don't know what will happen there.

I got this one price in napa for 28 sq ft of 1.5 ounce leather for 3.85 per sq ft.

It may actually be cheaper to buy some leather pants. It would probably also be cheaper to buy the mx style pads and just wear it under my jeans.

But if I'm bored and got the time I figure I will try this design.

wouldnt be bad to have pants cut in a more up to date style than typical riding pants......

or you could just order some :D

I know a source for rolls of Aramid(Kevlar) cloth as well as aramid thread. We could take it with pairs of regular jeans to any tailor and have them sewn in for a minimal amount.

At 7.95/ft (36 inch wide) it's 200 bucks for 25 feet (that's probably enough for about 15 pairs of jeans) it sounds like a damn good idea to me. If at least 3 other people are interested, I'll order some.

The Draggin jeans are definatly tight .. you just order 2 sizes bigger.

I own the Draggin Jeans Cargo pants they have, and i love them! I ordered them in 38" waste and im a 35 and they fit great.

As for protection? I will vouch for them 100%.

PM me with any questions.

Webbles

Well I talked to a distributor, and for their high quality kevlar twill fabric (the other stuff I looked at on the web wasn't suitable for clothing), it's 25.85 per yard, 40 inches wide. To line your butt and knees like those dragginjeans would probably take 1 yard, maybe 1.5. So all in all it'll end up costing about the same as the dragginjeans, but you'll have a stylin pair. I'm still down to do this and will front the cash if a few people are interested.

well i am down just cuz its different so include me and pm me if it ever "materializes" muahahahahahah

sounds good!!
count me in as well.
Will we need to buy a certain amount of yardage?

Sounds interesting , Sylvain can you also research a tailor that would do that.

Man, my mom could prolly do that shit for free. She's like a master quilter, and if she can make some insano quilts, im sure she knows how to put some kevlar cloth in some jeans. I'll ask her about it, but dunno if shes got the time or the desire to do it. And once you get 1 pair done, the rest are so ez!

Also, what kinda jeans are you guys going to use? I know each person likes different brands, so doing a group order could be kinda tough. Billabong jeans pwn u.

MaxSmiley has a good setup too with the armor btw. I seen it! You guys really should incorporate some kinda pockets for pieces of armor to slip in, like on jackets.
