Manager of FPS Russia site found murdered

You don't get rich by not having nerve

What's the thumbdown all about?

I've actually seen the whole start of FPS Russia.

Hard to believe that this guy named Kyle Myers, who pretty much grew up rich (I think his dad owns a Chevy dealer or something), is just goofing around posting call of duty gameplay videos to YouTube working under a partnership contract with machinima.com. The he decides to go into the "Dimitri" persona while doing commentary over his videos. Dimitri tells us he works in a porn shop. Always uses Russian guns in the game. Starts hinting about doing some real life videos showing guns. Soon we see some pretty basic stuff of him shooting guns he's already got. Just simple stuff. 1911, .44 Magnum, Mosin Nagant, etc.

And then he just blew the fuck up. Now he gets to use military grade hardware. Makes an absolute shitload of money from just posting YouTube videos.

Ah, he's got his PhD then. “Papa has a Dealership.” I've know a couple of those guys...

I'm speculating on the dad thing. But he definitely comes from some kind of wealth. He's said before in podcasts (as Kyle) that the only time he ever had a job type job in his life is when he worked for a car dealership. Never really said what he specifically did at the dealer which is why I think he was the owner's son. I've got an "owner's son" at my dealership and he really has no specific duty as far as I can tell.

Edit: some Google fu found that his dad Frank Myers owns the Lamar Farm in Georgia. 90 acres of land. This is of course where FPSRussia blows shit up and shoots lots of guns. Can't find any family connection to any car dealership in GA. So maybe it was a legit job after all.

Whatever money his family may have really doesn't matter anymore. He's probably pulling down mid to high six figures a year from his YouTube partnership now.

I don't have a problem with him making money. Good on him for finding a niche. Asking for donations-which amounts to pocket change compared to his earnings essentially- to fund a project whilst still spending obscene amounts is a bit much.

He's not the only big name youtuber to go this latest route.

If he's making a video game he's gonna need around 20-40 mil to do it. Just FYI

So what if he's asking for money, you think successful business owners got rich by spending their own money?

Not even that.

Dude produces a ton of videos that people enjoy. Hours worth, in total.

zimi..., you'll pay $50 for a video game, or $15 to go see a 90 minute movie (which these days is probably a remake of the movie they showed you 25 years ago), but bristle at the thought of someone soliciting donations or (indirectly) investment in a video game?

It's entertainment. Entertainment is entertainment. Take it or leave it, nobody's forcing you to watch his videos (or give him money.)

Can spend $80 000 on a slow mo camera, amongst other things featured in his vids, but has to solicit money from viewers to fund his own ego.

What's the saying:

"a fool and his money are easily parted"

Soliciting donations for a charitable cause would be appropriate...:thumbup

Enjoy the game.

:rolleyes
I think his videos are very entertaining. You pay for your entertainment by a fee, this is done by donation, yet every bit as good.

What's the problem? The camera adds cool shit to look at in his vids, more people watch, he makes more money. How is that different then anyone else investing in their livelihood?

Was he the same guy that was new COD commercial?

the victim was the manager and often the cameraman for that youtube channel. It's not the guy who stars in the videos and commercial.
you know, the traditional Mafia business here in SJ used to be car dealers....it's no stretch to assume that Good Family Men still use the lots to move assets (and bodies) around.
