Matte or Gloss black?

Good question actually. Asking questions about helmet colors/finishes/performance is exactly the type of thing one would ask on a motorcycle forum, yeah?

:laughing

Don't understand why anyone would get up in your jock about it?

I have a matte black Arai and it doesn't seem to get hotter than the gloss helmet I had.

I just clean my visor routinely, and pick bugs out of my vents. The rest of the helmet is usually littered with bugs unless I'm feeling bored. :laughing

I clean my visor on a pretty regular basis too, although nowhere near as often as I should. The rest of the helmet stays pretty nasty, though - at least the outside.

its for a very good reason actually. I am not asking for the color, I was concern because ive heard matte had heat issues where it would heat up alot more than the gloss helmet, and also ive heard that its harder to clean.

I didnt want to bring that up because I wanted to see if anyone would notice.

clam down

Is that like a drunk clam ??

I bought a Black Matte Shoei Multitec. It flows air pretty good and fits me real nice. I like the look better than their regular black Multitec - but that's just my choice.

Hi im shopping for a plain black helmet. Having trouble weather I should get a Matte Black or Gloss Black. Curious about everyones preference and why?

Matte. Because that's the color you're going to paint it when it's all scuffed to hell anyways. Just start out that way and save yourself the trouble.

people are gonna ask why ya spent so much $$$$ on a paint scheme you can do yourself with a spray paint of primer...:p

Matte paintjobs can be fixed with simple application of black spraypaint. Gloss requires polishing and shit.

Matte or gloss doesn't matter. You're talking about black. Black absorbs heat, no matter what the finish. If you want to stay cool, get a white helmet. Or another light color, like pink. :laughing If you want to be all bad and rad, get matte black, put a skull on it, and live with the heatstroke like the rest of us.

1) Ask the question you're looking to answer rather than hoping someone will stumble over the question you asked.
2) Get the one that fits the best.
3) If they both fit the same... get the cheaper one.
4) Get some leathers for the road as well as BARF.
5) Profit?

Rob, and others, have some good stuff goin'-on. However, no one has asked, "how do you ride?" Whether you are looking for speed performance, or mileage performance, the drag of a matte brain-bucket will definitely effect your results. I would weigh this Cd factor before considering a matte helmet. :nerd

Pssssh, the drag on the matte finish is EASILY offset with a sticker or two. :x

I much prefer matte. Nice looking and easier to keep nice.

Black helmets are hard to see though. You might wish to consider one that cagers will more easily see (unless you have loud clothing)

I went with matte black Shoei RF-1000, and my bike is matte so it works for me. So far no heat issues, but I guess it's hard to compare since I don't have a gloss.

Matte is 1. Harder to clean and 2. Easier to scratch and more 'delicate' if you will. I can attest to this as even my finger nail against it can leave a mark (which I can relatively easily buff off, but still this isn't an issue w/gloss).

End of the day, it's your preference on looks, and whether you care about maintenance (which honestly, is not that much effort either way). As others have stated the fit & quality of helmet is the #1 thing you should be worried about though.
