Do you and your friends mess with each other while riding?

Maybe 25-30 years ago, I started riding with some guys that rode real well...former racers and whatnot. I remember the first time, I'm riding along, and one of the guys starts creeping up beside me, I was on a CB900F at the time, if I remember correctly, and turns his tire into my muffler and starts rubbing up and down the length of it. Another one comes up and stomps on my shifter. I guess it was trial by fire, sink or swim. Scared the shit out of me at first, but then I figured, if they were trying to make me crash, they could have, really easily, but they were just messing around. This was the days of big chrome mufflers, so nothing was damaged.

So, fast forward a lot of years, and my brother and I do this stuff to each other, step on the brake, touch the front brake lever, turn off the kill switch, I actually reached under his arm one time and took his keys, he just coasted to a stop. Great fun. A few friends of ours do this stuff too, and we don't do it to people that we've just met or new riders, just the old guys that don't get freaked out.

One thing it has taught me is to be aware of what is going on around me. I'll see someone's front wheel creeping into sight next to me, or when someone is riding next to me and I see their hand reaching over in my peripheral vision, and I make a pre-emptive strike (take that!).

So, do you and your longtime riding buddies mess around on the road?

Nope, NEVER :angel

:later

Used to hit kill switches on long rides in deserted places. Never in traffic/curves/town etc.

It's all fun and games until someone hits a tree and dies. I don't think anyone would think it was great fun then.

If someone creeps up next to me and tries to hit my killswitch, I kick their shifter down to 1st with my right foot and stall their bike.

I would never mess with anyone while riding. In fact I would never mess with anyone ever, anytime. I don't do that. Frankly I am shocked. Shocked and appalled.

Ok I might, if they deserve it.

Time and place are very important here. Yeah, I have a few friends I trust enough to horse around, given proper circumstances. Good times!

One of the tricks is to breeze in going faster and hit the kill switch going by, stealth mode.

And Like Bonerov said, trusted friends and riding buddies. Not too many people I trust that much.

Yeah, I love the killswitch trick. Used to cruise up to my buddy and rest my leg on his passenger peg and freak him out.

Fuck no! And you and your buddies are dumb as you know what for doing it, IMHO. You may get away with it for awhile, but how are you going to feel if you try something some day and one of your friends or maybe your brother dies?

Even the "simple" kill switch trick could be disastrous. Like you hit his kill switch and don't notice the car or truck running the stop sign from the side street. You motor on oblivious and laughing. Your friend or brother, because of the small delay you cause him gets run over and dies. Think about it.

Nuff said.

wow, thats sounds extremely stupid, maybe its just me. Though if anyone did that while I was riding, they would crash, id be sure of it.

i've always wonder what pressing the kill switch would do if i was riding

i just assume the bike would shut off and roll slowly, now i know :D

:rolleyes

what a pansy-ass approach to life. oh my god, if you stall his bike, he could DIE!!!

jfc, dude.

Yup. I've done it to myself on accident. I think the people behind me were confused why I was coasting for a bit, but it wasn't a problem. Flip the switch back on, and gently bump start it if you're still moving and you're good to go.

Heck fire, we still do it! Kill switch or keys off at a stop light, bump the rear tire, grab an elbow on the way past. It's male bonding. And yes it's only funny until someone gets hurt...then it's hilarious!

Exactly, mean dad. Reminds me of that shitty Kelly Clarkson song about never walking too far from the sidewalk. As previously stated, there is a time and place, and the trust has to be there. Sure, if someone from whom I wasn't expecting it did that to me, there would be hell to pay. If it's my brother, I would just get him back later while laughing my ass off. Lighten up and live a little, folks.
