Do you and your friends mess with each other while riding?
Maybe 25-30 years ago, I started riding with some guys that rode real well...former racers and whatnot. I remember the first time, I'm riding along, and one of the guys starts creeping up beside me, I was on a CB900F at the time, if I remember correctly, and turns his tire into my muffler and starts rubbing up and down the length of it. Another one comes up and stomps on my shifter. I guess it was trial by fire, sink or swim. Scared the shit out of me at first, but then I figured, if they were trying to make me crash, they could have, really easily, but they were just messing around. This was the days of big chrome mufflers, so nothing was damaged.
So, fast forward a lot of years, and my brother and I do this stuff to each other, step on the brake, touch the front brake lever, turn off the kill switch, I actually reached under his arm one time and took his keys, he just coasted to a stop. Great fun. A few friends of ours do this stuff too, and we don't do it to people that we've just met or new riders, just the old guys that don't get freaked out.
One thing it has taught me is to be aware of what is going on around me. I'll see someone's front wheel creeping into sight next to me, or when someone is riding next to me and I see their hand reaching over in my peripheral vision, and I make a pre-emptive strike (take that!).
So, do you and your longtime riding buddies mess around on the road?
