The set of Michelin Power Pures were delivered today and I'll probably get them mounted tomorrow to replace the set that had the nail in the rear tire...

One thing I noticed about the tires right away is that they are VERY soft, as in "supple"

I've gone thru a number of sets of tires Pilot Powers, PP 2cts, Bridgestones of several models and in each case the carcass of the rear tire was moderately stiff when you pressed down right at the highest point on the profile. You had to exert quite a bit of pressure to get the unmounted tire to flex inward.

But these new Michelins are like bicycle tires in comparison to that! The carcass folds inward easily with the lightest press to the point that they really do feel too supple for motorcycle tires.

I'm assuming that everything's good and this is a by-product of the single spiral filament used (instead of the several that is typical) to make the tires lighter. I'm wondering now what kind of mileage I'll get out of these things because the rubber also feels very soft.

Well, I have to try everything once :)

i have them and dont really have any complains they are awesome tires!!
just make sure run the correct psi on them...also great for commuting.

I know they'll probably be fantastic performers, but it was just odd how flexy they were unmounted :) Did you notice that before you put yours on? How stiff the carcasses of other tires are in comparison to the Power Pures?

Holy crap, a tire review before they're even mounted :laughing

:laughing Saw the same thing in Motorcycle News :) They talked about picking the tires up and noticing they were significantly lighter :)

Besides, what's not to understand? People make all kinds of assessments about other people, all before even saying "hello" :laughing

yes i did David i notice that also,,plus they said its a very light tire weight wise compare to the others,,,,,,,,,hands down excellent tires

I've never found a local retailer with the Michelins in stock before so it's the first time I had a chance to hold these tires in hand. Just for curiosity's sake I'm going to weigh the Michelins vs the Bridgestone BT-016's when they come off just to see if they really are any lighter.

B! I called first and you have the 190/50's but not the 55's :) I had Matt call and the only 55's he could find at another store was in Fresno :)

Are you in tomorrow? I'm going to bring the wheels in asap. You're the only one I trust with the Marches :laughing

I'll be in then! Excellent!

Yeah, I know... I was just getting antsy is all... and it looks like I might have to return the dash :( I haven't even opened it, but when I called Translogic they all of a sudden changed their tune and said that (now after I have it) the OEM speed sensor can't be calibrated to the 0-5 volt reference that my model zx-10 uses!!! :wtf

I made sure to talk to them previously and the person I spoke to said it could be done! and now mysteriously, it can't!

It looks like I have to go for the AIM MXL Pista dash instead, as they confirmed for me that though it isn't a plug and play harness, the calibration of the 0-5V output for the speed sensor can be calibrated for the dash using their software.

you'll be very disappointed with the front tire wear life. at +-1200 miles at 32psi front suspension dialed in. your tire is gonna be showing threads on the right and left sides because of the 40% soft "1" compound. It glues great and heats up in two minutes but it's gone before you know it. The rear tire is great, lasted me +-3400 miles and was very sticky and sides were gone before the center was. I did a trackday on them all ready at the tread bars and it worked well up until the last session where it stepped out in a few turns.
I have ridden two sets of Pures the last set i didn't bother with the front as a pure because it was too soft. i got the Regular pilot power and it lasted as long as the rear and work just as well in the turns for grip. you'll like these but if you ride a lot of hills they'll be gone in a few weeks no problem. have fun :) :thumbup

thats shitty, let me know, i can prob get the AIM dash in next week if they have em.

Thanks K9!

It's so odd being on a ZX-10 now and how it chews thru tires! :laughing On my ZX-6 I went thru two rears for every front, and now I go thru two fronts for every rear! At least I still have the perfectly good 016 front... when the Michelin front burns up I'll just throw that one back on :)

they wear weird and start to handle peculiarly. I'd imagine its due to the higher ratio of the soft compound and medium compounds. Other then that, they are fine tires. It tips in as quickly and predictably as the pp 2cts. As always, the typical "more grip that you can use on the street" mantra applies to this tire as well.
