Mini USB wiring harness

Your GPS ought to be able run on 15w or so, no?

If so, you can tap in to a switched power source at your front running lights.

Check the polarity!

or, just to make SURE it has enough voltage, tap into a spark plug wire :twofinger

Jesus, you guys are thinking this out wayyyyy too hard..

install a fuse box... wire up the power-let... plug in the gps... plug in your heated grips and your butt massage-er/viberator of choice.. no need to tap into the existing wiring harness.

LOL, I found what I was looking for at post 13, ordered it right then, it shipped on Monday I should have it this week. :rofl

Don't forget to use relays.. or your switches won't last..

Relays and switches for what?

I got it on Saturday. It took all of about 15 minutes to install, including pulling the gas tank and routing the wire under it.

I want to directly wire a USB Mini 5 (the one on the left :thumbup) directly to my bike.

Does anyeone have a source for a fused harness or how to do it?

I don't need to hard wire a USB connector. I use an adapter that plugs in to my battery tender cable and gives me 5 volt (@ 1 amp).

Been using it since last March for my cell phone, iPod and GPS with no problems at all.

Got it at:

The only problem with connecting it to the end of the Battery Tender is that it's "always on". I think you'd want to connect one of the Battery Tender type cables to your accessory wires, that way it's only "on" when you turn the ignition to "on".

And I may just have to do something like this myself. I've been wanting to mount the GPS, but didn't want to go with a cigarette lighter type power outlet. Think I might rather have something like this, though some of the other direct-wire options I've seen would almost be better because it'd be less pieces.

But thanks for bringing back this thread, I found some good info here.

Wouldn't you want it on all the time (especially if you are charging a cell phone or bluetooth headset)?

Besides, the adapter I use only pulls 1 amp. I don't thinnk there is much (if any) chance of killing the battery.

I suppose you could, but for what it's being used for I would think it would be better to have it only come on when the bike is on. I don't see any benefit to having it always on, even to charge stuff. If you're stopped somewhere long enough for your phone to charge, wouldn't it be better to just plug it into an outlet instead?

I've got my phone charger hooked up more or less directly to the battery but with a relay in between so that when the ignition is off, the phone charger is off. 'No point in adding more parasitic battery drain.
