More Time To Get Fit - 2025

Those are some impressively high numbers, TWT.

Make sure you ease back in, you have to give your tissues, including your heart, a chance to ramp up to what you'll be asking of them.

As we get older, that takes a bit longer, but the mistakes plague us for longer.

Be very smart about how you get back into shape and remember your recovery. Plenty of protein is necessary for recovery of muscles.

I will be watching your recovery with interest! We're all pulling for you!

Those numbers look weird, R. Calories burned for the duration and HR look low.

I love that you are not letting the wheelchair hold you back TWT.
I remember getting winded to the point of not being able to talk and walk in 2022 and 2023. I can't go back to that. As soon as it's possible I will be on a bicycle and I need my heart to be strong for that because I can tell I have lost a ton of muscle in my left leg. It looks like I skipped leg day for 46 years and I used to have pretty shapely legs. (Hey, I am a woman, I can be vain. :x)

Thanks. I have been using the wheelchair for walks since I got one so I have been reasonably consistent in my efforts but this workout's HR was just wacky. I used to have my friend push me, and I would add an assist. Now it's all me, but oftentimes I have to go in reverse and use my good leg to help so I can work different muscles/give my arms a break. Anytime anything is off camber, it's a huge pain/harder to steer and push the chair. I need to go even slower for a bit to get the HR back to zone 2/3

I am so f*cking tired of not being able to walk.

Yeah, maybe because I am using smaller muscles? It certainly feels like I am working my butt off yet the calories burned is low.

Quick searches for wheelchair use calories say 250-300Cal/hr. Apple is probably using a rough estimate like that, plus your bodyweight and maybe your speed. It's all smaller muscles, so I'm not surprised the calorie use isn't as high as running.

HR and calories burned don't correlate when comparing different activities. For ex, which burns more calories at 140bpm: running or video games?

How was the race experience in the XC? Traffic? Fun attacks?

You see the new Conti's? I ordered a pair of the 2.4 Race/Rapid version already
My placing was not too bad up the hill off the start, so the first downhill went well. Passing was fine for me.

I picked off a number of people in my category towards the end. Good Race.

Oh, I did not know that they have a wider version of my 2.2 Race Kings.

I'm curious to see what happens when bicyclerollingresistance.com tests that new tire. I put in a request ;)

The Conti engineer I talked to said a few notable things. The Trail casing is equivalent to the prev Protection casing (the fast one). The new Race casing should be faster. The Grip compound will mostly be better in the wet and will wear faster. They’ll have a 2.0 out in about 6mon for gravel. They will also still sell the ShieldWall RaceKing (slow casing), not that we care about that tire.

But ya, we’ll find out when BRR gets a hold of them. Hopefully it wins the vote ASAP.

There were a lot of new tires and updated casings at Sea Otter. Conti, Maxxis, Vittoria, and others. Ben Delaney has a vid that covers most of it. It seems that a lot on BRR is now just out of date 🫤

You are a proper tire nerd like me. :nerd :cool🍻

Thanks for introducing me to my next tire.

I am having trouble finding The Race King and I have them back ordered, so maybe I will try to change my order.

Do you know when and where you can get the Dubnital Race casing?

Anyone else bought both the fast and slow versions of Race Kings? :laughing

Can confirm, Shieldwall is trash. Im running the Protection casing on a 26” wheel hard tail with drop bars and it’s a hoot. Keep us in the loop tire nerds!

Dylan Johnson made the Good Race Kings scarce! Lol. I hope BRR catches up.

No kidding.

I ordered Race Kings on February 19th and they have been delaying me since.

Continental should have subscribed to Dylan Johnson, when he crowned the tires the fastest gravel and mountain bike tire.

My mountain bike probably rolls faster based on the rolling resistance data than my gravel bike, which makes me wonder. Why do I even ride my gravel bike? :ride

The low RaceKing stock is in-part due to Conti preparing and releasing the new tires.

My order at SeaOtter is coming from PerformanceBike. Some of the reps under the Conti tent actually worked for PerformanceBike. I should have mine around first week of May. But it really depends on size/casing/compound and when you order.

I saw PerformanceBike says they will have the 29X2.4 in July.

I would check on your order.

It says 20X2.2 is in stock. I might do that to get some fresh tires. My old Race Kings are wetting themselves with slow sealant leaks.

yes. i suspect it’s the small muscles i use versus the big muscles in my legs.

i decided to treat this as a reset in my fitness journey.

pluses:
- increased core strength.
- massive arm strength gains.
- more time in HR zones 2-4 vs walking
- my balance is amazing now

minuses:
- left leg has withered
- right leg has lost some muscle
- right knee hurts from carrying all the burden
- flexibility/ROM decrease in my left ankle

i plan to be careful in my recovery and i do have a PT appointment set for mid may when i should be allowed to bear weight again. by the end of the year i hope to have improved my cardio health and have maintained the muscle gained in my core and arms. we shall see and i’ll definitely keep you all posted. :)
