More Time To Get Fit - 2025

I’ve had my new bike for almost 1.5 weeks. Since last Monday I’ve done three rides, 9, 9, and 14.3 miles. I’m over the moon happy with this purchase.

We live in a very hilly area and I think I’m sick…I enjoy climbing the most. The grind of it is extremely rewarding.

Tell us how you feel after 2 days. :)
glad you chimed in 6 days after I ran... yeah, I spent 2 days in muscle-aches and 1 ibuprofen..... but then on the third day I ran 2.95 miles (more than before), and again, had muscle-ache for 2-3 days :laughing

Which is also, a better achievement, once again, for someone who has never ran.

Gotta do what you gotta do.
earphones "help" a lot. ;)

now back to the sneaks but for some reason the REI location annoys me, was thinking Sports Basement.

Way to go.

Ya climbing is great. I love the obvious goal of "making it to the top".

AbsolutEnduser, my advice would be for you to go to FleetFeet or another running specific store for your running shoes. Way bigger selection than REI for sure.

Not a big overall elevation change (low to high point) but a lot of obvious goals 😁

^ you mean like on a podium or something??? Hint, hint...
He is getting good at climbing those steps.

Another quick ride this evening, 8.7 miles and 914 feet of climbing. I got passed going up hill by a guy on a road bike…he was fast and I felt like I was standing still. I have a lot of work to do but I need to keep reminding myself that I am really just starting this journey on a bike.

I’m having a blast, it’s just amazing to see how good people are at the things they do. I enjoy being around them.

I really liked Brooks running shoes for my feet but also like On although I liked my original pair more than this new pair but the original pair got a tear in them at like 3 months and got replaced by Brooks. I am a big guy so I replace my shoes at least once a year if not more. If my knees start to hurt then the shoes get replaced. I second the running store recommendation and while you are there get a gait analysis to make sure you get the right shoes if you happen to have issues with your gait.

Been hitting the gym more consistently myself and trying to get my gains back quicker by pushing myself harder but not too hard. I try to up my weights by 5 pounds a week and on the treadmill jogging for a minute more each session. So far cardio seems to be coming back faster but we shall see. Spent last week out of town at a work thing and didn't get much exercise as it was mostly meetings/eating/drinking although we got in some axe throwing and found something I am even worse at than golf. my aim was great but getting the axe to stick was a whole different issue.

damn i replaced my walking shoes faster than you replace your running shoes. after about 4 months/500 miles they are TOAST.

(y) I noticed "Brooks" in the store. Didn't get to try them. But, also, was "not attracted to" them b/c didn't know the name. I tried random Hokas or Asics or even some swiss... O.G.? X.O? something? Bottom line, many of the shoes looked weird to me anyway!

Had to buy "Topo" .. because I thought they were comfier than others. May have made a mistake .. or not, not sure. Even though they had a funny shape, like the big toe pointing inwards, they were less tight, than say a Hoka I tried what had what looked like a "wide-duck"-foot. Bottom line, many looked weird to me ... :laughing

So actually I should probably call a podiatrist. I have a hurt in many places including balls of feet , and have been recommended to do so. Maybe soon! (which explains that even few miles of jogging feel like a lot to me. )

anyway a 5k is coming soon, will do it (actually gonna be a first organized run for me.) It will be a jog/relaxed etc. Good thing there are others like me. Lol, I'm so newb that I haven't even decided if I'm going to wear shorts or the "North Face" Running-pants that I have from REI.
