Most dangerous dam

But making the exact same comment about Trump supporters is acceptable?

Honestly, I'm more worried about the emotional damage our Ducati owners have to live with

Give 'em a Dainese jacket, they'll be ok

:laughing

I apologize for going off topic in this thread... I also find the dam stuff pretty interesting...

Thank you for the link Smash Allen, I'm still having a hard time understanding how sediment is important for a city

The "arriving silt—so long as it does arrive—strengthens the bed on which Shanghai is built... the less the tonnage of arriving sediment the more vulnerable is this biggest of Chinese cities to inundation..."[80]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Gorges_Dam#cite_note-80

Huh...well, I'll be. And from the same article...
The dam discharges its reservoir during the dry season between December and March every year.[99] This increases the flow rate of the river downstream, and provides fresh water for agricultural and industrial usage. It also improves shipping conditions. The water level upstream drops from 175 m to 145 m,[100] preparing for the rainy season. The water also powers the Gezhouba Dam downstream.

Perhaps you should view it as a chance for self reflection on your own beliefs and how your beliefs may be viewed by the community. :dunno

What beliefs? That muslims shouldnt die and that ive vehemently defended them against people here making ridiculous blanket statements against them?

Would you be this surprised if the comment was about Jews instead of Muslims?

For some reason Americans get their panties twisted when someone makes a remark about Jews (or Blacks), but apparently Muslims are fair game :dunno

It's fucking hypocritical

Id feel the same either way, but i agree with your point. I think neither should cause a suspension.

If a poster constantly made disparaging remarks about any particular subset of people, I would highly consider giving that individual a suspension.

I cuss like a motherfucker. It's my fuckin right, yaknow? But there's places where I simply do not cuss. If Budman said potty mouth talk is no longer tolerated, I'd live with it or find a new joint to cuss in.
I don't see what the big deal is on asking people to refrain from saying shitty things in a privately owned forum.

The consistency might be an issue here, but I have zero problems using the TOS to boot an asshole out of Bud's living room. People wanna rebel and not visit BARF anymore because the powers-that-be are trying to make it more inclusive? Buh bye.

Nick... we asked twice to keep this on track. If you have a beef with us actually stepping up to address some of the bigotry, in whatever form that has driven some members away that is fine.

Your interpretation is yours. 12 Mods disagree and none agreed with you. I in fact challenged the decision when the vote was 4-0 and some great banter took place and the little cool smilie guy sealed the deal. it was seen as being cool that 1.5M muslims would die.

I will once again say.. if you want to discuss this new piece of the TOS then start a thread in website.

I think for most BARFers, this:

Is much more offensive than this:

But we all know what's going to happen: A vacation for asdfhwy, and the voices of the trolls continue to echo louder and louder in the sink.

No wonder why the conversation has been so much less interesting for the past few months. It's been BARF's very own little race to the bottom.

We are trying to address this stuff as best as possible. Big social media hang outs can't get it right. Expecting a bunch of volunteers who ride motorcycles to nail it is just unrealistic. We try of course and will continue to try because we value the community, but if anyone expects perfection just go ahead and exit. When facebook is perfect you let me know how they did it and if you like it.

and Mean Dad... you can swear all you want. It is not the words vs. teh actions. Fucking eh bro!!

And as far as asdfhwy -- yeah that hurts, but pretty much we have always taken that action. We are not going to let butt hurt people start fucking with others with their mighty swords and expect that we are going to decide whether that was OK or not.

Barf TOS Remains simple

DON'T BE A DICK!

Good points. Thanks for the explanation, budman.

don't let it happen again PG, consider this a formal warning :laughing

from what i can understand, it seems like the steady stream of silt built up the ground that shanghai is built on. if the silt is shut off then the ground starts to be eaten by the water since it's built on water soluble rock and it could result in huge sink holes, damaged foundations, etc.

i may be way off base but i don't think so

this is an engineering thread, and i had not thought about the soils balance of building foundations in a delta...

This makes sense. China seems to make long range policy decisions, so could they have missed this? Wikipedia is the brilliantest?

I googled the dam... Damn! Scary shit.

Y = number of suspensions.
X = barf years
Sloped line = membership consensus regarding suspension.
Dots = individual suspensions.

Accurate to one standard deviation

China has already displaced over 1.4 million residents due to three gorge dam, Was it was in their plans? Probably. The power they get is worth the cost to them.

Wikipedia has bias for sure. Pharmaceutical companies altering their pages for example. Just a jumping off point and should not be only source, the sources on Wikipedia must be vetted obviously.

I googled the dam... Damn! Scary shit.

Trevi the Italian company has over 60 years of dam repair experience and they started in September. Over 450 Italian troops protecting the operation. Likely Worst case scenario is thousands dead, hundred of thousands displaced.

I'm more concerned over the Washington nuclear waste site honestly :wow

...Worst case scenario is thousands dead, hundred of thousands displaced.

I think people tend to underestimate the cost of "displaced" people. Empathizing with their plight is voluntary. The side effects less so.

:teeth

This Dam bust test could show the mechanism for the Mosul Dam fail.

Last minute and half is when all the excitement begins.

Last minute and half is when all the excitement begins.

I think this example illustrates the potential failure of the dam
