He's been working for a long time. This was probably LONG before things like FMLA and other job protections. Maybe even discrimination laws! :) No Offense, Dave :)

This is the fact of the matter; "at will employment" means if you don't show for any reason (injury included), you can be replaced/fired.

IF you get hurt at work that's illegal. But do something that get's you hurt outside work & "tootle-loo stupid" says the employer...
