Moto GP gone from Laguna Seca / Mazda Raceway

Yes - its considered unethical to take money from a product that is proven to kill, so many countries ban tobacco advertising.

F1 is not in a much better state than MotoGP, financially.

Maybe its no coincidence?

So why is it tht tabaco do any sponsor GP teams any more? I know they don't in F1 also anymore. Are they not allowed to by law or something?

yes

Marlboro is all that's left and it's been awhile since you've seen a Marlboro logo on a Ducati and even long since their name has been on one.

In Europe Tabasco advertising on television and magazines is illegal.

The bikes can't have a tobacco name, brand, or even image that could resemble. This is why Marlboro Ducati, despite the fact that's who sponsors them, can't even have the barcode logo or anything approaching a Marlboro logo. They can't even be called Marlboro Ducati

Well written reply

Not going to line by line your posts. Some of your claims were inaccurate or can't be backed up. Many of mine are speculative, also.

Overall, you and I likely agree on a many things. However, I don't think Dorna is taking racing in the right direction and apparently you think they are making it better. Our definitions of "better" may differ. I don't mind differing opinions because it means you and others are passionate about racing and thats good.

I've stated that I believe Dorna is on a path that is less fan friendly and geared toward corporate micro-management - manipulating which teams get resources which racers get to race. Is this racing or a contrived spectacle? I'd genuinely like to hear your thoughts on that.

I don't mean to simplify things, but the grid's larger than it's been for nearly a decade, no? And as previously pointed out, despite losing Laguna Seca from this calendar, more than one has been added.

Therefore, it's really hard for me to think that Dorna is putting the series in a downward spiral.

Now, that's not to say that they aren't moving away from a particular trend, like say fan-friendly entertainment into enterprising, or something like that. But you know, you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

P.S.
Tabasco on omelette....mmmmmm......

Always make me laugh when people argue against the free market. Put your fingers in your ears and scream 'I'm not listening' if you like, but the world is moving on whether you like it or not. Dorna is making money and racing at world class facilities around the world. They will not miss Laguna, nor will the racers for the most part.

Laguna will never be what we wish it to be. Time to learn to deal with that. And the fact that, when the lease runs out in about 15 years, it may not even be a track anymore.

IMO dorna has been kciking ass since they decided to take back motogp from the msma.

next year we will have new tracks on the calender in key markets, a full grid composed augmented by inexpensive CRT bikes and some very promising new avenues (honda prody and FTR yamaha). suzuki is returning and aprilia is continuing to increase their role in the series.

both moto2 and moto3 are resounding success'

It has been exactly what I've wished it to be. yes, you can sit back and judge from afar. clearly you are not as intimate with the circuit. too bad...it's awesome and you have missed out on a life experience.

no one's asking YOU to love it or like it. It would be good of you to show some respect to people who do though. It's a travesty to some of us, for obviously more than you can comprehend.

Waiting to see if our GP campsite will be transferred to WSB. It would suck for a loyal, (20+ year) fan to lose our campsite due to the GP cancellation. I don't relish the idea of having to fight over a new campsite.

16 years for me....and no, they will not honor the transfer, like they did when GP took over for WSBK....but please call them and confirm, as I'm in a bit of shock with what they told me right now.

It's entirely possible that this is simply a hiatus, BTW.

Dude, do you have reading comprehension issues? Go back and read my posts. Laguna is one my favorite places on EARTH. I've done over 20 track days there and probably attended 20 something different races there. I love it. I'm just smart enough and honest enough with myself to realize that the reason MotoGP is leaving has little to do with Mean Mr. Dorna and everything to do with the fact that the track facilities, infrastructure and ownership structure are not consistent with the way world class professional motorcycle racing needs to operate these days. Unless Laguna was sold to private investors and given approval to bring the facilities up to modern standards (which is never going to happen) its days as a destination for series' like MotoGP are probably over. Racing is a business.

Do you want me to stamp my feet and cry for the whambulance?

I would have liked you to do exactly what I said: show some respect for others. you can't, and that's fine.

"Grids are bigger" doesn't mean the racing is any better.

Carmelo Ezpeleta/Dorna/Bridgepoint exist to make money and that's it. They care nothing for moto fans and are corrupt and unscrupulous as any big business. Anything they do that is good for Moto fans is merely a by product. If you like that and think it's good for the sport, than I can understand why you like them. I personally believe they are ruining it.

Considering the sub-standard way Race-Goers are treated at Laguna, I have to admit that I don't feel all that broken up about it.
On the other hand, the times I have been on the track itself have been great. But I have to attribute that to the track day organizers.

How about we bring Sear'sPoint up to Moto-GP standards and have it there?
