Motorcycle Parking in the Dublin / Pleasanton BART Station

And where did you get this information from? :rolleyes

The Pleasanton/Dublin/Livermore area is one of the safest in the Bay Area, or at least it was four years ago when I moved out east.

Well, firstly, I live here, and know many local riders who've experienced theft.

Second, I work in a motorcycle related environment, and a few customers come in, due to needing parts, due to theft, or attempted anyways.

Yesterday a lady needed a new battery, because some tweakers came in and broke into her garage and tried to disassemble her bike for parts, while still in her garage.

I saw a thread on here about helmets getting stolen off of their bikes while parked at BART

I saw a thread where a motorcycle got jacked from BART

Bicycles get taken all the time at BART

Times change

I live in an apartment complex in Dublin with a 4 story parking garage and very poor security.

Multiple bikes have been stolen / tampered with / vandalized.

Sorry to hear how things have changed in the area. When BART was first coming out to the Pleasanton/Dublin area, we were concerned about increased crime. We didn't see a big change right away, which was a relief. But with the huge growth of Dublin over the past ten or so years, things were bound to change significantly. :thumbdown

Bummer.

I've parked at the Dublin side of the West Dublin/Pleasanton BART station, and I haven't had any issues. I even used to leave my gloves in my helmet, and they were always there when I got back. I'm not saying that it's not possible to get your bike messed with, but I don't think it's quite as crime-ridden as is being presented.

Dublin is terrible for theft, especially bart. People will steal anything on your bike, and occasionally your bike itself. Dublin is a high theft area. Be careful.

this is true and I hate to say it but Santa Rita is just a short walk away---I think we can all figure that one out regardless of our political leanings...

There are worse places, but to leave your stuff there like that, is a gamble! That's all I'm saying. It's bad enough to where something is actually likely to happen.

You should go to a casino :thumbup:p

I had the same question as OP...10 spots on the Pleasanton side..not free though...I did not see it fill up in the last 3 days from 6 AM to 10AM...some do leave their helmets locked to the bike.. I guess its safe enough due to foot traffic and the food kiosks close by..

One detail that hasn't been mentioned yet... motorcycle parking is free on the Dublin side, but there is (or at least was a few years ago) a fee to park motos on the Pleasanton side. I was very confused by this and asked a BART agent... he explained that the cities (not BART) control and enforce the parking fees. Pleasanton charges for motorcycle parking while Dublin does not.

Oh oh, I just bought another bike hoping to ride to BART and park free on the Pleasanton side. And when I checked with a BART agent last month they told me it is free.

I guess I am verifying this again tomorrow.

They might let you park in the lot of Arlen Ness Motorcycles. They have lots of parking and are walking distance to Dublin bart. Also, no one would mess with your bike there. Hell you might even wind up riding home on a new Scout.:laughing

Dublin is getting younger and younger by the day, with all those new apartments and condos. And young people are more likely to commit petty theft. Plus, any city that's located right off a major highway is prime for auto/bike theft. Grab it and go.

You've confused me by replying to a post from ten months ago. :laughing

I'll be moving back to Pleasanton soon. I guess I'll have to learn to start locking doors and things. :thumbdown

BARF is the perfect place to ask

While BARF is an amazing resource for motorcycle related questions, isn't this something that you could find out on your own? Couldn't you just ride to the other side of the station and look?
Maybe ride all the way to West P-town and look there also?

:thumbup :ride

A reply to an old post...but:

Sure, he could just ride around and find his own answer, but maybe somebody already has. This is the precise forum to ask this question. How do I know? Well, I just came to this forum with the same question, hoping to find an answer here. I did so because BART.gov offers weak info about this for bikers.

You see, if his question had been asked and answered here, it doesn't just help him, it helps me, and dozens of others who come to BARF, or just type the question into Google.

The info VicTim provided in #30, for example, about Arlen Ness is something I wouldn't have come up with, even if I did ride around the station looking.

So, a hearty thanks to those offering help and good ideas.
