Mugen Civic

There we go folks, as always, if you actually want a front wheel drive sports car, get a GTI.

That 200+lb-ft of torque at 1800 rpm must be nice, huh Ken? ;)
(compared to the Civic Si's 139 at 6500rpm :rofl)

The "launch mode" is really fun! :p

I really don't consider it a sports car... it's a "hot hatch". It's a daily driver that you can take to a trackday.

Gobs of torque and for about $500 bucks- just changing the ECU software and nothing else: 250bhp and 285 ft/lbs of torque. How much would it cost to get a 07 Civic Si up to those numbers?

IMHO- It's the best bang for the buck you can buy. Nice fit/finish, comfy, made in Germany and it's the first car I've owned that makes you smile when you turn the key. :teeth

Oh- and my "automatic"(DSG) shifts faster than the Si.;)

Fuel economy:

Civic Si: 20 city, 29 highway: 23 combined, premium gas

VW rabbit: 19 city, 28 highway: 22 combined, regular gas

Pontiac GTO: 15 city, 23 highway: 18 combined, premium gas

Handling:

Civic Si
Slalom: 68mph
Skidpad: 0.87g (limited slip diff)

Rabbit
Slalom: 65.5mph
Skidpad: 0.77-0.8g depending on source

GTO
Slalom: 63mph
Skidpad: 0.83g

Has Honda figured out 4-wheel discs yet? :confused

Last numbers I saw for the GTO were 17/25mpg. And real world highway cruising closer to 30mpg. Handling numbers were better with the optional 18" wheels and tires.

Honda can do discs. They just like to warp prematurely. Or if they let Brembo do the OE spec...the pads wear out very fast and eat the rotors with them, meaning you're looking at a $600+ front brake job after 20k miles.

O rly?

Braking:

06 Civic Si
70-0 mph :162-184ft, depending on source
60-0 mph: 122ft

VW Rabbit
70-0: 160-170 (that's Rabbit, not GTI, btw)
60-0: 120 feet

03 Pontiac GTO
70-0 mph 185 ft
60-0 mph 125 ft

Fuel economy:

Civic Si: 20 city, 29 highway: 23 combined, premium gas

VW rabbit: 19 city, 28 highway: 22 combined, regular gas

Pontiac GTO: 15 city, 23 highway: 18 combined, premium gas

Handling:

Civic Si
Slalom: 68mph
Skidpad: 0.87g (limited slip diff)

Slalom: 65.5mph
Skidpad: 0.77-0.8g depending on source

GTO
Slalom: 63mph
Skidpad: 0.83g

I'm sorry, what were you saying about handling, braking and fuel economy? :confused Since the acceleration numbers are "close enough" to you, the handling, braking, and fuel economy are close enough to me. Close enough to justify buying a 6L V8 rear-drive sports car over a front drive, four-pot grocery-getter. As for reliability, well, let's hope you didn't get the automatic :laughing Has Honda figured out 4-wheel discs yet? :confused

I was comparing the 2007 Honda Civic Si to the Pontiac GTO. And the numbers are in favor of the Honda. I would NEVER compare a Honda to a German car. :hand

why must you constantly vomit Germany everywhere?

You know, I wish Honda would just offer Type-Rs for the US again. I'm no expert on what it takes for them to import, but c'mon. And how about the whole Type-R line-up instead of this Mugen stuff?

I remember seeing someone buy the last (for the dealer) Integra Type-R at Stevens Creek Acura way back when. I shoulda just pulled the trigger on that one. :(

The previous post was to show how close the GTO was to the Civic in the criteria the mk4ce found important, and then how much better it was in other criteria, making getting a Civic Si a stupid choice given that criteria. Still, get whatever you want, but don't claim you got it 'cause it handled so much better because it doesn't. ;) The Rabbit was in there just to show you a comparison of what $16,000 will get you.

I'd be all over a Type R if it was priced decently. The Mugen thing is just for show, no performance gains and its bullshit. I could probably go out, buy a normal SI, head down to the local tuner shop, order the same Mugen parts and come in signifigantly lower than $30k. Mugen is a name that all the kids want.

I love Mugen, dont get me wrong, but this is one time I will pass on all fronts.

nah man im talking about how every single time i read a post where germany is glorified i dont even have to check to see who posted it.
germany must give nice reach arounds.
