The trippy thing about Adam and the Ants was that their drummer never used cymbals.
Naw they used cymbals all the time. But they had an unusual sound in that they had two drummers and two drum kits on stage to recreate the African Burundi beat used in their 1980-81 songs at the height of their popularity...which was suggested to them by Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McClaren, who promptly stole all the Ants musicians to form Bow Wow Wow so Adam had to find a whole new band.
But Adam had the last laugh, he took those new musicians and the Burundi beat with the Robin Hood highwayman/Native American white face stripe/Pirate look and put five songs in the Top 50 of the British charts at the same damn time, which hadn't been done since the Beatles.
Still pretty crazy to see two drummers banging the skins at the same time, you just don't see that much.
