I think at one point I think your kid should go, "oh fuck, I don't have to deal with this uniform to be who I am", then look back at his life and realized he had some chill-as-fuck parents that love him for who he is.

Independent of a bunch of squares' (myself included) opinions, it's cool that your son is doing what the f. he wants. Doesn't really matter how he manifests that, it's just cool that he's the one making the call (and dealing w/ the consequences: that's an integral part, too).

If anybody grew up hanging out on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley from 1992-1996 you'd know what I'm talking about...and it was like the tail end of it...my brother had already been Punk Rock for years in the 80s...

One of the many examples of what it meant to be Punk Rock in Berkeley during those times..."Punk Rock is a dude who goes by the street name "Fro-Hawk" piercing a friend Jeremiah's nipple with a Safety pin and a lighter while chilling up at the Rose garden drinking 40s"

And as far as I can remember, punk rock expression has been is liberty spikes and spiked/hawked hair - Kudos for the effort. Just because the punk subculture turns on itself to rebel against its own expression in its own attempt to redefine, refine, and castigate, doesn't make it righteous. Maybe when his testosterone levels spike, he will lose the hair and just be righteous.....

Because they were "real punks" and no one has ever been as punk as them. They were so punk they made Crass look like a Marin Jazzercise class. They are the keepers of the sacred flame of punk rock and arbiters of what is and is not punk. Part of the sacred duties of being a "real punk" involves shit talking anyone who doesn't conform to the rules. This of course is part of the reason punk has crawled up it's own ass.

It's great your kid and his friends are doing their thing and making their own fun. It's nice to see kids who aren't wasting their youth.

Now why can't society realize that just because you dress like that doesn't make you an asshole, a looser, and never going anywhere with your life. Look at this guy for example.
