highway 12 in utah is, as they say, da bomb!
thank you :applause

It is, as were many of the roads I was on! I was wishing I had a helmet cam, particularly for that brilliant stretch of 12 east of Escalante, the section where the road winds down into the insane redrock canyon and back up onto the ridge, with steep dropoffs on either side....
Ah, memories.:teeth

This is a brilliant and thorough trip report. Well done, Nemo.

Coincidentally, my own upcoming tour intersects your route at UT rt. 95. Judging by your pictures and rapturous praise, I chose well. Here's the whole 2-week loop through WY, CO, and NM, the 3 states I have fambly in:

Route, part 1: CA to WY
-4, 88, 89, etc to 50
-50 through Nevada to Delta, UT
-from Delta, rt 6 to I-15 @ Santaquin
-I-15 N to Spanish Fork
-from Spanish Fork, rt 6 E to Helper
-From Helper, rt 191 N to Duchesne
-From Duchesne, take rt 40 E through Steamboat
Springs, CO
-25 miles SE of Steamboat, take 14 E to Laporte, CO – MARGARITAS with remote fambly unit 1
-take rt 287 to Laramie, then rt 230 W to Riverside
-at Riverside, continue on 230 for about 2 miles to River Ridge Cabins/Bob Merrill Meats - BEER with remote fambly unit 2

Route, part 2: WY to NM

-Rt 70 W to rt 789 S
-789 S becomes CO st rt 13
-take rt 13 to Rifle @ I-70
-take I-70 E to Glenwood Springs
-take 82 S to 133 @ Carbondale
-take rt 133 to Hotchkiss, then right on 92 to Delta
-in Delta, left on rt 50/550 to Montrose
-continue on 550 S to Durango
-at Durango, left on rt 160 E to Pagosa Springs
-At Pagosa Springs, right on 84
-crossing NM border, 84 merges with 64 – go left
toward Chama/17
-84 merges with 285
-take 84/284 S to Santa Fe - CHAI with remote fambly unit 3

Route, part 3: NM to CA

-back up 84 to 502 W to Los Alamos
-502 W merges with 4 W
-right on rt 126 to Cuba
-550 N to Bloomfield
-at Bloomfield, left on 64 W – GAS UP
-at Shiprock, turn right on rt 666
-continue on rt 666 through Cortez
-take rt 666 to Monticello, UT
-take rt 191 S to Blanding
-take rt 191 S from Blanding – after 4 miles, turn
right on rt 95 to Hanksville
-from Hanksville, take 24 W to Sigurd
-from Sigurd, take 28 N to 50 W @ Salina
-take 50 W to I-15 at Scipio
-take I-15 south 12 miles to Holden, then exit at 50 W
-take 50 W to Delta, where it joins rt 6
-take 50 W to S. Lake Tahoe, CA, or take 95 S to
Hawthorne
-89, 88, 50, 4 etc.

Sounds like a mighty fine route, rump. I was sad to see, though, that they renamed 666 to 52 or something nondescript like that. Feh.

Seeing family on a moto trip is kinda perfect--a liquored-up evening of meat and conversation, and then you're off again before anybody gets sick of each other.

Have fun, look forward to seein' your report!

Thanks Nemo! Great pics, great story line, and a good lookin' sister :teeth

I'm sorry it had to be for such a somber cause but I believe that these sorts of trips are the one's you remember most...for both the good and bad.

So...when's your next epic ride?

Really great thread. Thanks so much for posting the pics and the commentary was great.
