Newbies and the motorcycle wave gripe

I bicycle about 500 miles a month in rural Marin and Sonoma counties for last couple of years. I've yet to have a motorcyclist wave back to me when I'm bicycling and wave to them. But only about 25% of bicyclists wave to me when I'm on my motorcycle and wave to them.

I wave at bicycle travelors often... and some in the hills here and there. More likely a nod or a peace sign than a wave though.

I used to reserve my waving for out of the city (SF) only, and felt a little big sister about it, but now that I see WAY less riders on the daily than I used to, I’ve started waving at ever bike in the city as well.

I really hate it when I mess up and wave to a scooter though :laughing

I wave sometimes. I believe it's like a form of communication as if to say, "The road ahead is safe and clear."

My folks had a VW Bus in the seventies. They got lots of waves. My wife once owned a Corvette. She still waves at people in Corvettes. I often visit some nearby friends on Saturday mornings. This woman has a routine of walking along the narrow part of Summit Rd at the same time I pass by. She always waves.

I have a friend who rides a Harley. He thinks that waving is stupid. He says that nobody waves at him in the grocery store even though they're driving the same shopping carts.

That is more of a nod thing. :p

I'm a waver.

At rallies no one waves because that's all you would do. At Sturgis the non-wave starts around 100 miles from ground zero. Street Vibrations it starts at NV border. Hollister at close to city limits.
I don't wave to scooters or over divided freeways. Scooters generally don't wave AFAIK.

I wave at all bikers. I see it as a friendly acknowledgement of someone who shares the same hobby I do. A sign of mutual understanding in a way.
I always feel guilty when someone waves as they pass me and I can't return the wave.

Dave, you running stock suspension on your FB?

Anyone who rides (or drives) should know they won’t always receive a wave back from another person. The many reasons for this is explained in this thread.

Just appreciate the times when you do receive one.

opinion: … You take that barf salute and shove it where the sun don’t shine!

Sincerely, yall be good.

I'm sure I've already responded but, tl;dr, so...

I wave at everyone on two-wheels. Bicycles, scooters, Razors, anything. Actually, now that I think about it, I wave at anything less than four wheels. Nothing better than to getting a thumbs up from granny on a three-wheeled mobility scooter.

I only wave to moto riders including scooters and 3 wheelers. I once got a wave back from a couple moto cops up on Skyline. That was cool as they don't usually respond. Bicyclist used to be a nuisance (still are) but now that they can use the whole lane and block traffic on many roads I like them. It makes it easier to pass all the cars piled up behind them and get me to clear roads ahead.
