no one waves in SF?

Or even better, the gentle, yet firm, pat on the butt.

^--- don't forget to keep eye contact when you do it

I used to be concerned about other riders who don't wave. Then I realized I'm only seeing them like 1 or 2 seconds, then they're gone. So why should I care about them waving back? I still wave regardless...even to the scooter, moped, skaters, hookers, granny folks. Overall, it's all good mon!:cool

I wave in SF, I guess I'm no one :sniff :tear I'll just park my moto by the semi trucks and be alone by myself.

I wave on the open road, freeways excepted. Once I enter a community of more than about 20,000 souls I stop waving. Waving while riding in San Francisco is a sure way to end up in the hospital.

Just wave if you feel like it and it is safe to do. Nobody is going to be mad that you waved at them :laughing

Be on a solo mission to spread the good vibes and just know that the other rider probably did not expect it or was trying to stay upright at the time if they don't return the gesture. It is always possible they are simply too cool to wave but I bet secretly they enjoyed the wave and enjoyed being too cool to wave back and you were friendly so win win win! :cool

You will notice you don't see threads on "Why are there some friendly riders out there that wave all the time?" because forums don't thrive off of nice topics about people being nice.

So I will officially take this time to say thanks for waving! If you wave at an orange helmet and yellow safety vest on a black DRZ (I know the description alone probably eliminates me from said wave but...) and I don't wave back, just know that I wanted to but my death grip while negotiating SF traffic did not allow for it.

i ride all over the bay area, and everywhere outside the city when i wave at another moto i get a wave back.
however in SF i have literally not gotten a single return wave, regardless of what kind of bike.

whats the deal?

also, i had an idea for this forum.
was thinking it might be cool to have a just OOT (off topic) thread within the general forum where people could make quick posts like this without having to start a new thread and clutter up the forum.

i belong to another forum and we have a monthly shit thread, where people can just make quick posts on all sorts of topics, almost like a general discussion thread, to keep the main forum clean, and provide an outlet for quick questions/comments.

Check out the Kitchen Sink if you want to post non moto related questions or just plan rant!

In SF it is very hard to wave sometimes as there is a lot of stuff going on. Crazy taxis, bicyclists, pedestrians and tourists + cars makes it hard to see another rider, relax and wave!

Here in Sac area, I get more "no waves" than waves. One guy on a Ducati pulled up right next to me at a stop light, and just looked straight ahead. No nod, no thumbs up, nothing. Then he took off at the green. Whatever. On the other hand, a Harley dude on the other side of the freeway (very wide center divide) actually waved to me on my morning commute going the other way. (Yeah I was on my Ninja.) Go figure.

In SF we got shit to do, we don't have time to participate in your little limp wristed circle jerks.

i only wave to bikes on the freeway.
to easy to get hit by a car or go down a pothole waving in sf,never wave going pass the castro, unless i have my butt huggin chaps on

its all about the nod:twofinger not the finger

balls have touched.

...if you take someone not waving to you on a bike personally.....ya need to de-sensitise yourself a bit. Some people don't see you.....some people dont care about the "riding community" they just want to ride....wave if you like, if the other party is like-minded and sees you they'll wave back....if they don't....don't let it impact your day!! There is NO method to the madness of waving or not waving......some sportibikes wave, some do not, some Harleys wave, some do not, some BMW's wave....some do not....you have no control over it, so best to not even let it be somthing you waste your time thinking of.

Personally, I wave to every rider.....that I see.....I am sure I have missed some waving at me while not paying attention.

I probably wave at cars more than bikers. Car making room let me by I respect more than some biker going in opposite direction. Or if a car turns on his turn signal, but then sees me and turns it off, and makes room I wave.

I couldn't wave at everyone though. I felt like moses crossing the red sea on my way to the east bay yesterday afternoon.

I just started working in SF again, after a 3+ year hiatus. I forgot how rude and self-centered some people can be over there...

trust me it doesnt hurt my feelings (nor does comments on a internet forum) i was more just wondering at the social phenomenon that seperated SF from the rest of the bay.
and i think i understand it now, so carry on.
