Oh no you didn't

from Can-Am's site..

"IS THE CAN-AM ROADSTER A MOTORCYCLE?
The Can-Am roadster is classified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a three-wheeled motorcycle but BRP feels the term roadster fits best because the Can-Am roadster gives owners the performance of a motorcycle and much of the peace of mind of a convertible sports car."

By California Vehicle Code definition, it's a motorcycle.

400. (a) A "motorcycle" is a motor vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use of the rider, designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground. A motor vehicle that has four wheels in contact with the ground, two of which are a functional part of a sidecar, is a motorcycle if the vehicle otherwise comes within the definition of subdivision (a).

Just as I thought.:nerd

I see tons of them touring. Any time i go for a ride I see at least a 1/2 dozen, if not more.

It's like parking a Hummer in a "compact" spot, rude and retarded.

Now, what would everyone think if a hack parked there?

You can rent them out here in Alameda so I occasionally see one. I dunno, to each his own.:dunno

It's still rude to take up more than one spot. I don't agree with the people complaining about scooters in moto parking because they're at least usually small.

This is just dickery.

I think they complaint about the scooters was that those effers will encroach your space and park on top of you, given the opportunity.

+1 It's an SF thing.

Ok so it's legally a motorcycle. Who cares. It doesn't fit in the spot he parked it in. I wouldn't care if someone had a tiny car in a moto spot so long as it only took one spot.

Then why don't you need an M1 to ride them?

I am curious about this, too. I can think of a handful of motor vehicle that do not fit into any category in the Vechicle or Health and Safety Codes. Perhaps the law hasn't caught up yet.

For giggles, I'd love to see someone massacre the driving test on a Can-Am by just driving over all the cones.

Not so much definition as it is "if the shoe fits". In this case the shoe is a parking spot. Which it clearly doesn't.

The benefit of moto parking is that 2-3 can fit in a standard car spot. If your "motorcycle" takes up 2-3 of those spots, you need a fucking car spot.

I have one and I like it alot. I would never even contemplate parking in a moto spot. It's not right. :x

Looks like it would be comfortable on the highway.

If i was rich it would be number 27 on my list of must have motorcycles.

:laughing I hear ya. Actually, it really is a comfortable highway ride and is kind of a blast to operate. But it is not going to set the world on fire with it's performance and it doesn't leeeeeaaan, so I like the FA much better! Still, it's a fun and different riding experience.

This^
Wouldn't bother me if it had 10 wheels and still fit in the spot. I used to have a beat up Chevy pickup and if I saw someone taking up two spots I would park it about six inches from their door. :teeth

Because the Vehicle Code states you only need an M1 (motorcycle) endorsement when operating two wheeled motorcycles or motor driven cycles.

There is a lot going on in Sacramento in regard to creating a license requirement for three wheeled motorcycles. This includes creating a testing process at the DMV. I suspect the by 2015 such a licensing requirement will be in place.

We've had some three wheeled motorcycles demonstrated for DMV decision makers. They have seen demos of the MSF three wheeled motorcycle training course. The CHP recently (last Thursday) had a bunch of three wheeled motorcycles at their training facility.

Just keep in mind that government takes forever to accomplish change. And a big limiting factor will be the creation of a valid riding test to be created and conducted at DMV offices where many have very small parking lots which will limit what can be done.
