Oh no you didn't

Some idiot at work parked their bicycle in one of the motorcycle spots. I picked it up and wheel it next to the clearly marked bicycle rack.

That make the helmet law no longer valid correct? class C = no helmet

Doesn't matter what class license you need to operate it. If the vehicle code says it's a motorcycle, it requires a helmet for any operator and passenger when operated on public roads in this state.

So you will needs a helmet but not an M1

Actually, here is the part that fucks with your head...

As long as all three wheels are on the ground, it steers like a car. Turn left, go left... etc.

The -second- that sidecar wheel leaves the ground the steering reverses back into a regular motorcycle, Turn left, go right.

It is actually important to learn how to ride (drive) a sidecar rig on all two wheels, and while flying the third wheel, at high and low speeds to get accustomed on how to react in terms of steering input when the chair lifts.

They are far harder to master than a standard motorcycle.

That's exactly what I meant, push left, go right FUCK!!!!

1. Even if it classified as a mc, that's just a douchey thing to do
2. My buddy owns that Can-Am rental company in Alameda and he feels the same about double-parking in moto spots
3. You do not need an M1 for the SEMI-AUTO gearbox. You DO need the M1 for the MANUAL version - at least that how it was the last time I checked

How 'bout a chorus of "This is why we can't have nice things." It's pathetic that a human being living in society can't just see that and realize it's not right. He or she will just do it and if there's no law against it, it's all good.

I heard about that place. Cool. Actually, the Phantom is an SM5 and I did not need the M1 to operate it. I still think that a cert. is needed for these things, though, and parking in real Moto spots should be a parking violation. It really is a common sense sort of deal.

This was from a different day. I really wanted to move it to another pole, but same thing - don't want to make waves at work

Why would a manual transmission make any difference whatsoever? Having a manual transmission doesn't make it any different...it's still considered a motorcycle by the vehicle code. And since it does not stipulate a separate license requirement based on the transmission installed, you can operate it with a class C regardless. Whoever told you that was wrong. Feel free to call the DMV or read the vehicle code yourself. You won't find anything in there like that.

A friend who owns 4 of them. This came up when they were first released a couple of years ago, so if I was misinformed, then it was before the DMV or insurance companies could figure out how to classify it.

Ha! I'm not dissing you or your friend (intentionally). I am just curious about how rumors start. As far as I can tell, that has no basis in fact. Maybe the dealer told him that?
